Summer Transfers

This summer has to be about signings with the quality of Laporte/KDB signings and not the Cancelo, Rodri, Mendy type of signings who are all good players but nowhere near had the effect of Laporte/KDB.

Torres and Ake wont change around this team much with sitting on the bench 80% of their time. Torres could take over Sane's playing time which was zero in this season. So maybe he will push Sterling and Mahrez on the bench? Unlikely.

If we can get them very cheap to be benchwarmers thats OK but 2-3 signings are needed hat will refresh the squad and players of City will sit up and say oh wow this player will improve us on the pitch and we need to raise our game as well.
If we got Mbappe Sterling and Jesus and Mahrez would fucking sit up and realize where they are and they need to raise their game. They wont really care if Torres is joining to be benchwarmer and play some League Cup games.

If Pep does not trust Stones and Otamendi its ok to change them but Ake is certainly not way above them in any way. Maybe he can be more consistent, less erratic, more focused but that we only will see when he is put under immense pressure by playing so high up the pitch.

Put Stones or Otamendi into a defence that does get lots of support from defensive midfield (Wolves for example) and we would be all over them to sign them and then they would be like they are here currently.
Torres looks better than Mahrez. And he’s 20 in a shite team.

Super direct, unlike Mahrez.
Can go inside or outside, unlike Mahrez.
Superb passer with both feet, unlike Mahrez.
Delicious crossing.
Much quicker than Mahrez.
Got a good shot, both feet.

By January, after learning a bit of Pep’s positional play requirements, I think he’ll have pushed Mahrez to the bench.

And I pray to God it doesn’t take that long.

You make Mahrez out to be a shit player he didn't do to badly dragging a shit Leicester side along to a Premier League title.

Utterly bizarre posts in this thread. The most successful team in England, for a decade, and people complaining because we didn't buy someone they will have hardly seen play. Where did the entitlement come from?

I don't think he's saying Mahrez is shit rather he has not had the impact his talent should have had during the last year or so. Yes he's had some great moments and a very good season, but if you think about it in a lot of the big games his impact is not so good. Margins in these matches are small but from not playing a final simple pass, to taking too many shots when cutting inside, to not beating a fullback - this has happened on more than one occasion and often cost us. Mahrez was fantastic at Leicester but they rarely played against teams that sat so deep. On Saturday his one shot was ok but if you look again at that moment Kev was inside and in space, all the defenders knew what he was going to do and would have been wrong footed from a short pass - Kev threw his hands up - something he has done a lot lately. But it shows the small margins that happen in tight games. I guess looking at our team right now we have definitely under achieved this year but to be fair it would be hard to carry on from the previous formidable year.

There will be a much needed slight change in personnel - Torres would add another dimension, something we need alongside a new heart of the defence. I hope we get him - bags of ability and the right age to really kick on under Pep. I expect Mahrez to stay but for me he shouldn't be starting as often as he does.

Let's be honest. Starting off the transfer window by signing Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake isn't going to send shock waves around the footballing world. Doesn't mean they can't turn into good signings.
