Sunderland in the Championship 2017/2018

Bugger, great result and well worth the win could have been 6 for them easily, cost me a load of money tho as I'd accy cash on over 2.5 Derby goals.

That’s the thing.

The lower down the pyramid a team is, the more important a large fan base is, as the TV revenue falls away.

The biggest problem, should you be relegated, will be the PL contracts some of the players will still be on. If you can shift them out and bring in some experienced lads to help the kids along, you will be fine, IMHO.

Coleman seems a good manager and you need some continuity and stability.

Well done mate - pleased for you - but didnt half bollocks my acca.

I reckon we knocked a few accas out, there will have been a lot of confidence going into last night if your Acca was still live.

Fan base still there @Vienna_70 ...2k there last night, despite no win in 11, being bottom of the league, pissing rain...live on tv..etc etc

I’m so pleased for you Stockport Mackem and your fantastic fellow Sunderland fans.

I went down to the game with my boy who supports Derby (it’s his local team like City was mine (and still is!) when I was young).

I’ve got a lot of time for both clubs who have great fans. The last time I went to this fixture it was at The Baseball Ground and Sunderland under Terry Butcher (about 20 years ago) won 3-0 and like this game, it was wet as I recall.

My lad and got soaked last night too and it wasn’t the result he wanted but the atmosphere was fantastic thanks mainly to 2,000 Mackems.

Loved the “How shit must you be, we’re winning away” and “Sunderland, Things can only get better...” which were very loud (we were sat in the far corner). Like the all light Blue away strip too!

Totally deserved it Sunderland.
From the start Sunderland wanted it far more (where have they been all season?). It was clear from the first few seconds they really wanted it and Derby didn’t.

Rowett has made some monumental errors letting quality players and favourites like Will Hughes, Tom Ince and the biggest favourite of all Jonny Russell go and not replacing them. There is no width now (and no fight last night).

The players he has brought in barring Curtis Davies and Ledley are not
good enough but Ledley was on the bench until deep into the 2nd half. Why?

Rowett has wasted his wages budget on a lazy waste of space called Tommy Lawrence. A right poseur with a number 10 on his back. Every time I’ve seen him he has done precisely nothing. Leicester must have been laughing themselves to the bank when he left (even if he was a free). Rowett tried him on the wing yesterday and he contributed.....yep...nothing. I would say he isn’t a winger. He isn’t anything! He’s utterly useless. He was subbed at half time. Oh and I’ve just found out he’s a rag who was on their books!

Rowett is a good manager but I’ll say this - he doesn’t like flair. He’s wasted £1.5m on Cameron Jerome who wasn’t playing for Norwich. Nugent did more in 32 minutes than he did in 83. Rowett’s thinking is muddled right now and his players are doing what Derby do in February except they are doing it in March too - they are bottling it.
Derby bottled it.

I’m pleased for Sunderland though. whose fans are fantastic- top drawer as always.

At 1-0 they were singing “We’re winning away, how shit must you be? We’re winning away!”

It could and should have been 6-1 or 7-1. Ashley Fletcher missed a sitter at 2-1 just before HT and he hit the bar after, while McNair hit the post. Fletcher is a bit of a donkey I have to say.

McGeady played well, Cattermole and Gooch dominated midfield. Honeyman did well amongst others. Even John O’Shea looked solid!

They have an outside chance of staying up now and I really hope they do.

They have to fight like this.
Derby haven’t won in 8 and now look like they will repeat their fear of going from automatic contenders to not being in the playoffs at all.

Different manager making different mistakes: same results.

Good luck to both. They’ll both need it and to show the effort Sunlun showed here.

Great post mate.

Where have they been all season??? The million dollar question. Seems every season we start playing around Easter....not good for the old ticker at all.

Just when I'd totally given up, they entice you back in, I'm actually looking forward to the game Monday, which will likely result in a further fall....

But that's why we support our teams through thick and thin, just as you guys and gals have

Thanks and I hope that support is rewarded Stockport Mackem. It certainly brings back memories of 20 years ago for us. I hope your season ends differently. Will have an eye on your score particularly but I wont put any money on it (and wouldn’t want to put the kibosh on you!).

I hope it isn’t a case of The hope that kills...

Come on Sunderland ffs!
