Sunderland post match thread

Silva looked a bit tired and "off"

WTF? Your comment is a bit tired and off [emoji32]

Just my view -- he gave the ball away a number of times (unlike him) and wasn't given much room to maneuver and, as usual, was getting fouled without a whistle. I know a lot of folks here thought he was very good (dictated the pace and tempo of the game even), but I saw something different and I'm not alone. We're used to him pulling all the strings. It's not a criticism -- I think he's played an awful lot of football for a man supposed to be on his hols -- I've every confidence he's still magical. Don't lump me in with those that think we were (or he was) a shitshow today.

Fernandinho is an absolute baller. Such a shame he is the wrong side of 30 now. Hopefully got another good 4 years in him at best.

Sterling looks far more comfortable on the right and merlin showed glimpses of him old self again. At times I was too busy watching pep than the game, hands flying everywhere!

Great day around though... aren't those Sunderland fans little rascals though? One of the last to come out the stadium to be stuck driving up Ashton new Road stuck in between the convoy of Sunderland coaches. Plenty of gestures and verbals, all in good spirits though. What was surprising was that it wasn't just the 12 year olds who'd just took sexy Ed majority was 30 somethings joining in... they didn't take lightly the 2-1 sings which is always the winner.

Also fuck off moyes and sunderland celebrating their goal like it was a world cup final.

Aww, don't be like that. Please. I thought our two respective fan bases had a good rapport ;-(. I am more than happy with having Manchester City FC as my second team. Your a club who has come from a bad time. You are self made. You haven't always been the club you are now. You weren't born with that silver spoon in your mouth. I can assure you we won't score many goals this season. We have to take any tiny morsel of success when it happens. Moyes and the team hardly covered themselves in glory. This does not give me much confidence for the rest of the season.

I wasn't there and only listened on the radio but that said I thought your keeper did well and the new signings of course seemed to gel well with more to come. Nolito was mentioned an awful lot in commentary so I assume he did well. Jesus Navas I thought caused us problems.

Tbf he got 10 and assisted 14 last season for Liverpool. I'm not saying Milner is as good, but KDB isn't that much greater than Milner. Silva in his prime is what I expected with the hype around KDB but I don't see that sort of player in him. I hope I'm wrong and he puts in some cracking performances obviously.
Do you really believe that jimmy fucking Milner is anywhere near the quality of kdb...ffs mate Milner was a decent player and I've no axe to grind about him but he's nowhere near as good as kdb.
Its all about opinions but sheesh Milner if he wasn't English he wouldn't get half as much praise as he does. Kdb by a country mile is far and away the better player.

He is one of my favourite players but I got the impression the pace was all a bit too quick for him yesterday. But like you I have every confidence in him making me like a spoilt tabby.

stone v good debut, the team functional and efficient, not the most exciting game but looking at that when it fully clicks we are looking like being fantastic

Nice to see some real passion from the touchline and it looks like we actually have a plan. Hoorah!

I can't wait for the next game. Sterling has clearly got his confidence back. Kolorov played a blinder. I never felt as nervous as I did some games last season. The team were pressing constantly to recover the ball.

I also thought some of the things that were pleasing were very subtle. Pep encourages team philosophy. The team were anounced in numerical order. No superstar striker flourish at the end!
Enjoyed the team coming to acknowledge the fans/ each other at the end of the game.

Not at all. Sunderland had some good spells in the game and let's be honest a point a piece would not have been unfair. Moyes is a decent bloke and a decent manager. I just hope you don't end up looking like the rags' reserves team!

All the best for the rest of the season.

Well done guys and gals....a bit gutting to lose to an own goal....but I'd have taken 2-1 before kick off.
Have a great season

One good thing from our point of view is that with all it's trophies and quality players and huge manager City' didn't score a goal from open play. Ironic that with all our former Man Ure players (and manager) our worst player was a former City player. Even to someone who only could listen to the radio I heard nothing but bad things about Jack Rodwell. He was woeful. Sooner he is sold the better. Another good thing from our point of view is that at least it was away to one of the biggest clubs in Europe! I would rather lose 2-1 away to Manchester City than at home to a small Yorkshire side!!

Take no notice of bluephil, he's grumpy cos all he had yesterday was a slice of cold pizza.
Met a few Mackems yesterday and had a good laugh on the way to the ground. Your goal was a cracker but that was about all the team did.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

That team playing that way (sagna/clichy centre mid!?) will get torn apart against a better side. Am I missing something? Clichy is not Lahm and can't be moulded into Lahm.

A lot of our play looked like what it was - players trying get to grips with a new style but some of the things Pep tried yesterday are not going to work and i hope it won't take him too long to spot this

We'll have to agree to disagree or put it down to a poor picture.

Completely foxed my head, thought I knew a lot about coaching and systems etc but that today was weird in a good way.

I presume the system employed was more reserved than it will be due to the fact it's early days for the players, the full backs never overlapped and midfielders dropping into center back was more about safety while they adapt, reckon once we fully grasp it, more license will be given to the holding players to advance and it will look more attacking.

It was way more about teamwork than individual displays hence why certain players didn't shine so to speak, if we continue in this manner team ethic will be stronger week by week and it will be harder to pick a man of the match as individual players will be less relient to excel week in week out.

Sterling looked like he should because the ball was given early and at pace, players moved around him and he did his job attacking wise with the the correct cover behind him.

Early days but a clear plan was laid down imo yesterday, can't wait to see it develop.

good to see you talk as much shit about football as you do politics.
