Sustainability and our transfer plan

Selling De Jong for 3.5m has nothing to do with Sustainability in my opinion... someone at our club doesn't know what the fuck they are doing.

Bang on! He deserves first team football week in week out, but IMO he's the best at what he does in the world, but City don't play that way anymore so not used as much as he'd like. But £3:5 mill, thats giving him away, surely a big team would be prepared to buy him for at least 10/15 mill, the only thing I can think is he's never to play in the prem as part of the condition of his transfer, because I wouldn't like him to turn up at the rags in a couple of years!

Mega sense being talked in this thread, atleast some of us get this.

Our owners know exactly what they're doing and we dont need to spend huge amounts. Seeing young dennis suarez could be more of a regular occurance this year also.

Lots of good points made on both sides of the fence.

The business model argument in respect of FFPR is a reasonable one to a degree. From a footballing point of view we have stood still (so far) AJ for Scott S, Nastavic for Savic, 3rd Choice keeper swop, Rodwell for NDJ despite the differences in type of player. The fee because of amortisation doesnt result in a great loss apparently. We need to improve to compete at CL level something Mancini knows and has said so.
Is the reason we havent made the aquisitions required solely because of FFPR? I really couldnt say. Certainly our No 1 targets havent been persuaded to come and its arguable that Plan B or C players will achieve the desired effect. No doubt the money was available for any of these prestige signings. Will we sit tight now go with what we have and wait for the right players to become available in the future or do we have a rabbit in the hat? We will know by the end of tomorrow.

I think Khuldoon made it very clear in his 'State of the Union' interview. We will always have money available for true quality.

But this window we have chosen to establish ourselves being nobody's fool. I believe the Owners have been quite badly embarassed by our transfer dealings and in their world this is totally unacceptable. So the first job for the new CEO is to make sure Ade, Bridge and RSC will NEVER happen again at this Club. NDJ has been the major casualty, as well as not getting Hazard, in this process. But Players and their leeching Agents now know we will never again be held over a barrell, and this will pay big dividends in future windows as well as going some way towards regaining their credibility.

As someone pointed out, once FFP came to light, we rightly accelerated the buying to get our foot in the 'elite club' door. The only big mistake our owners have made has been trusting Thaksin's judgement in Mark 'knee jerk' Hughes and Garry 'on a whim' Cook.
Now, our owners have their own team 100% in place and will continue to assess where we are on the pitch relative to their goals for the project. But, if any of our fans worry the big spending is over for ever, don't! They will not let the this level of investment go to waste over the need to invest another 30-40 million per season. But it will only be on a genuine, carefully selected, world class player, or players to fill specific roles, as they have clearly stated. Much of this has been done to make sure they will never again suffer the embarrassment of EA/RSC/WB level debacles at this Club.

When the new CEO goes through his 'to do' list I hope the top of that list is 'renew Silva's contract'. That for me will give us sustainability. We need to lock up Merlin asap.

i agree but it needs to be at a price that suits both the club and the player, not just the player which is why im guessing its not done yet. don't want to turn into an arsenal where we sell off our top player every year(not saying this will happen at all just giving an example)

sustainability is our priority here, we cant just spend silly money every window as we dont have enough coming in to do so atm

have faith in our new ceo who will do a fantastic job as well as khaldoon, they know what their doing and are great businessmen

So, fine! I'd say every club wants sustainable even PSG, either now or future. Look at Everton, they can keep sustainable by reserving in PL and selling key players. But for Real, Barca and other champion clubs, they promise sustainability by continuous winning something. I believe it is impossible to both make our ambitious manager and world-class players happy and take the sustainability plan you refer to. Those people, Mancini, Kun, Silva, Yaya and Nasri, come to our club for the glorious future the owner promised rather than love. But under your plan, we can see Kun, Silva and Yaya will be easily attracted by Real or Barca for their prestige, nice weather and familiar culture. And even the owner will not be happy under this plan. I think we must agree on this point that our owner didn't intend to make profit for throwing out over one billion on a football club. It is not a business way. What they want, in my opinion, are prestige, praise and headlines. And these are all dependent on winning more trophies.

Now the club has the best chance to beat the neighbor but the chance is too easy to lose by watching your rivals strength their squad and doing nothing. I'd say it is not a shame for the hope of winning, which will not turn us to rags. It does when we become a bigger name than them and start to sneer at their lack of success. At that time, if we can focus on our own success and respect inferiors, we can be the great fans of a great club.

Anyway we must win trophies to attain sustainability rather than cut cost. Forza Mancini!

I'll be doing my bit on Saturday reguarding sustainability. I plan on giving city square and the mike summerbee bar as much money as possible in return for as much Heineken as I can sup. will I get a letter of thanks from khaldoon?

Totally agree. Also suspect it was no coincidence rumours of 'bombs dropping' were circulated around same time season ticket renewals were happening. That said I'm grateful for what we have and look forward to watching the guys this season.

Not sure there was an issue in shifting season tickets mate, and 'the bombs' came from on here, nothing to do with the club.

I see City being ale to compete properly now in all competitions.

We couldn't say that last season. Remember the League Cup semi and FA Cup back to back?

We needed quality players into the squad. Not necessarily players better than our 1st 15, but players we can rely on and rotate in and out of our League teams.

Last season we had a a 25 man squad on paper. The first 15 were top quality. The best in the League, but the fringe players weren't good enough. Remember the anguish caused by some of Savic's appearances?
