Swansea (a) Post Match Thread

thought the same mate. for longer actually. I said to my mate that these were playing for a draw half way through the second half. I think with a deal for Bony in mind.

You could well be right Bill.

I was praying for a second goal as the game had all the hallmarks of a last minute winner for the Swans, and I was convinced there would be 5 mins injury time. The board went up with 3 on, and the Swans showed no urgency whatsoever. As you said , they were like that for much of the second half. !!!

That just depends on your spin. 2nd most successful manager in our history. His success was better than Mancinis ...etc... Context and Perspective is needed.

Your last sentence provides a counter argument. Mancini took a team that had won nothing for 30 odd years and won an FA cup and title. That is some context for you.

Perspective might be that the FA Cup is a greater and prouder achievement than a League Cup. But if you want to spin it into stats i.e. the pure number of trophies then fine go ahead but it isn't very convincing.

That just depends on your spin. 2nd most successful manager in our history. His success was better than Mancinis. We hit a massive high bar in his first season which was difficult to emulate. 2nd season we finished 2nd no shame in that. With our key players out for large parts of the season we still reached the CL semis - won a cup AND finished top 4. Relatively speaking therefore I dont see we have gone backwards I feel we have been very unfortunate with a severely depleted squad that any manager would have struggled with. At one point we could barely get a first 11 out. So lets get all this into the correct perspective. Had we had no injury probs then YES i would have expected a good go at the title. and Im sure we woluld have given LCFC a good run for their money. Think about it, VK playing the whole season would have given us clean sheets most games and SA playing almost every match would have given us at least another 10 goals not even to mention KDB and how he and his goals were missed. Context and Perspective is needed. If we have the same injury issued next season Pep will struggle also make no mistake about that.

Context and perspective are often sadly lacking around here. In terms of context, I still think it is relevant that Pellegrini was trying to play in a way that matched the club's strategy so, for example, regulalry going out and parking the bus and playing on the break was never going to be on the agenda. Would he have been more pragmatic otherwise? We shall never know.

If Dinho didn't take Gaz Baz's place in the squad, who did?

I don't mean one player in and one player out. I think the kind of game and contribution that GazBaz made has not been replicated by Fernandinho. I think they are quite dissimilar players. I don't think we replaced GazBaz and de Jong with like for like, and we have certainly missed de Jong's personality in the changing room.
