The quotes were in the colour he allowed to be used in the disruptive article, which subsequently followed his daddy's outspoken comments.

Funnily enough, in the same paper his dad is a columnist for.

Do the math.

has given a lot to the club.

This is a small but important point. His form may have dipped, his dad may be one of the biggest twats in the country, it may have been handled badly and he may have disappointed us with his desire for a pay rise. BUT he still deserves a little bit of respect for the good things that he has brought to the club and I think some of the hatred that has been written by one or two people is way over the top. I can think of others who are more deserving of the grief tbh..

This is also true.

What people are failing to grasp, however. He HAS twice been offered a substantial rise- it was deemed not high enough.

Now he currently earns £60k a week - less than the £90k a week he was on at Chelsea - but given to him when he was considered hot property.

As a result, the offer is in line with his age and importance to the first-team at present.

I'll make it easier for everyone by posting his interview from the sun. Should be easier to see where he asks for a pay rise now.

SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS last night begged Manchester City: Don't force me out of the club I love.

City's England hero admitted he fears for his future at Eastlands, after a complete breakdown in talks over a new contract.

Not because Wright-Phillips is demanding too much money but because he wants to finish his career at the club he calls 'home'.

The 28-year-old winger claims City chief executive Garry Cook and football administrator Brian Marwood have totally blanked his offer to sign up for the rest of his career.

Wright-Phillips said: "No way is this a question of money. It's just that I love it at City and want to stay here for ever.

"Remember I left this club before but jumped at the chance to come back 'home'.

"I definitely don't want to leave again. I want to spend the rest of my life here - and I don't just mean my playing days.

"Yes, when the time comes for me to hang up my boots, I would love to stay and work with the City coaching staff. It would be great to give something back like that.

"To work with the kids and help them come through from the Academy to the first team would be brilliant."

Yet City seem ready to run the risk of losing Wright-Phillips rather than draw up a new five-year deal.

He is currently on £60,000 a week and is looking for a rise to £75,000.

Fellow City stars like Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez earn more than double the £60,000.

Talks about a new deal began when ex-boss Mark Hughes was in charge. But since the Welshman's departure, Cook and Marwood have pulled the plug on negotiations.

A bemused Wright-Phillips confessed: "I don't know why.

"I try not to get personally involved because I just want to concentrate on giving 110 per cent for City to make sure we get that fourth place in the Premier League.

"But it does hurt. It is disappointing. And I repeat, it's nothing to do with money or me being greedy.

"One thing that I definitely don't want to do is get into how much other players earn at this football club.

"Obviously, I know there are players here who earn more than twice what I do. But that's not the issue for me.

"This is not about my bank account, it's about where I want to be and doing what I want to do.

"So I do find the club's reluctance now even to talk about a new contract pretty hard to understand.

"The situation is this. I have two seasons left on my current deal and I don't want to get into a scenario where that runs down and down and still nothing is sorted.

"That just leads to uncertainty and confusion on both sides.

"So from my point of view, it's very straightforward. It's all to do with staying at a club I love and where the fans love me. These City fans made me and I'll always be in their debt for that. I feel like I owe them the rest of my career.

"So I'll put pen to paper on a five-year deal right now, longer if they want.

"Quite simply, I want to play at City for the rest of my life.

"At one stage I was very confident that would happen.

"It looked like everything would be sorted when Mark Hughes was in charge.

"He was keen to agree a new deal. But since he left, there has been nothing.

"OK, it has been hard because of the new manager coming in. There have been a lot of changes in a short space of time.

"There were obviously other things they had to deal with, other matters more pressing.

"But I can't work out why there's still a delay, unless they don't want me and are trying to get me out."

At least Wright-Phillips' England career is still flying.

He helped rescue Fabio Capello's World Cup hopefuls in midweek, after coming on as a half-time substitute in the Wembley friendly against Egypt.

Wright-Phillips scored one and made one as the Three Lions came back from a goal down to win 3-1, in what was England's 500th international win.

He admitted with a grin: "I was delighted with that. It was great to get out there and show what I can do.

"It's great playing in an England shirt, because playing for my country was always my dream.

"The World Cup is not far away and I would love to make the trip to South Africa with the squad.

"I don't think I did myself any harm at Wembley.

"But I don't look at it as if I have already booked my ticket as a result of the Egypt game.

"I realise there is a lot of competition for a place in the team, a place in the squad. There's David Beckham, Aaron Lennon and Joe Cole for starters.

"So I am taking nothing for granted. I know I just have to keep giving 110 per cent for Manchester City and for England and then hope I get the nod.

"If I do, I will be absolutely thrilled. It will be a real high point in my career."

I just find that "Oh so clever dissin' " sign offs like "FAIL" are the stuff of wankers. It shows no respect and as such, deserves none back.

The poster has tried to answer you challenge and I agree with him. Why would SWP mention what other players are earning if it was not an issue for him (as has been mentioned a good few times before)? Or do you think his Dad mouthing off was without his consent? Also, you may not have realised, but SWP wanting a further 3 years on his contract (5 in total) is not out of love for his club, it is because he knows this is his last big pay day. He is a player that relies solely on pace (that will start to drop as his legs go) and the club are no fools. He wants 5 years, not 3, to get as much money as he can before he can no longer run fast with his dead down (leaving the ball behind).

Fuck me where've you been for the last however many years message boards have been around? Nearly every thread has a 'fail' post.
I find people that butt into my conversations to tell me to 'grow up' really fuckin annoying. I also don't like being called a wanker or a nob (sic) either. You talk about 'respect' but have shown me none whatsoever.

What you, and your mate, have FAILED to do is find a quote i asked for. Instead you just presume a hell of a lot.

p.s what does 'dissin' mean?

That sun interview is an absolute load of bollocks. He's blatantly playing dumb and acting innocent to try and get people on his side

Pretty obvious what SWP is after.

1) His Gobshite father comes out with these comments about being mugged off. Do you honestly think SWP had not had any conversations with Ian Wright about his pay and contract talks???. It would be naive to think that Ian Wright just went off on one without having talked about it with SWP first.

2) About a week later SWP does an exclusive interview with the sun. This obviously annoyed the manager who commented that he would prefer players to speak to him directly rather than run to newspapers. In that interview SWP had the opportunitiy to distance himself from his fathers comments. What did he do?? repeated the fact that its not about money about 4 times and then made the comment:

"I can't work out why there's still a delay, unless they don't want me and are trying to get me out."

This above comemnt shows utter contempt for the club at a crucial time where we need to be focused solely on achieving 4th place. He has 2 years left on his contract these talks can surely wait 3 more months to the end of the season. If it wasnt about the money then why the urgency??

Bottom line is there was no need to bring up this issue with 3 months left in the season, he and his father are the ones who brought this into the public domain nobody else and frankly they deserve all the backlash they are getting.

Alternatively

1. gobshite dad bangs on about his son, contracts and money.

2. Son reads interview of dads and decides to try and limit the damage done by said gobshite father by giving his own side of the story and stating 4 times that for him it's not about money.

3.

3.

You will see why I afforded you no respect - I have highlighted it in red. I never called you a wanker, I said to use "FAIL" was the stuff of wankers - for you to say the message boards always have a "FAIL" post just backs up my argument I would have thought.

I would also have thought someone that is ever so happy to use the old "FAIL" would be a youngster (or just a sad git) and so I used "dissin" as in "Oh so clever 'dis-respecting' [use of the word FAIL]" to try and talk down to your level and be a little more gangsta (perhaps in the hope you may show me sum 'spec and get off 'a my grill)

Anyway, there does not have to be a direct quote. There was never a direct quote from Elano saying he thought Hughes a total ball sack but we all know he thought it.

Your thread proves nothing.

its clearly ian wright being a bit of a tool. and because of that swp has gone from being one of the most loved in the team to quite the opposite. i still love him i just dont think he is having his best season.

Wrong. What this thread, so far, proves is that SWP has NEVER, NOT ONCE, EVER, said "I want more money"
And there does have to be a direct quote because i, and everyone else on here, cannot read peoples minds.

I don't care about what pay rise he wants for me the problem is simple

At the moment SWP is not doing enough to justify his current pay let alone an larger pay packet

for me if we can find a buyer we should get rid asap

Stoner your on a wind up right? If not go have a siesta and hope to Christ you can in reflection know where the majority of the board are coming from

With respect darling, you don't speak for the majority of the board...

Stoner and you, IMVHO, are both wrong...;- )

This has become a very emotive topic for obvious reasons. I am as guilty as anyone. Given my personal 'dealings' with him over the years, I've probably lacked objectivity. I am taking a step back now.

I think it would help us all if we separate the issues between the money aspects [of which I simply don't know, understand or particularly care] and the football side of things, where he still makes a contribution and is surely no worse than he has ever been, in my view. He still manages to get picked by Capello, who obviously knows more about football then me and, with the greatest of respect, all of you.

What I do know is that he loves being back 'home' and would like to stay here with his family. Personally, I think he'll take whatever he can in terms of wages and duration [we all would] and see out his career with us.

He may yet also be on the plane to South Africa with Barry and Hart. Please take a deep breath and be proud of that. Calling our players 'greedy midgets' [copyright ZZ ;)] doesn't exactly put you in a good light and could be seen as nothing other than naked jealous. Not many of you could feel more jealous of him than me, watching him swan around with his new cars, flash clothes and lavish lifestyle, as I struggle to keep my kids clothed and educated, but being a grown up tells me that's just the way the world is and how us humans behave. Get over it and stop bickering, please. It's all become very unedifying.

No i'm not on a wind up (whatever one of those is)

I am simply trying to right a wrong. The majority of these boards (a fact i'd dispute) are coming from entirely the wrong place when they call SWP for wanting more money.
But if enough people say it it must be true right?

So unless someone is one hundred percent direct and spells it out, then you cannot read between the lines?

Jesus, first date with you must be exciting.

Footballers will rarely come out direct and say they want more money.

There are more than enough "sources close to the player" that will do it for them without the player getting his hands dirty.

Personally doesn't matter much to me whether he says it, or his agent says it or his old man says it, or it's hinted at through the papers. All means the same to me.

To be honest I don't even have a problem with footballers trying for a payrise. Don't think SWP deserves one, and think he should try and find the form that matches his current contract before he starts looking at a new and bigger one.
