some fans on here are pathetic telling shaun to get us into the top for before he gets a new contact you obviously have forgotten some of the stuff he has done for us. Shaun deserves a new contract, he always played his heart out for city, even when we were shit he gave us moments to enjoy, all he wants is secure contract so that he knows he can stay at city, the club he loves, its the least he deserves.

Sweep's 'heartfelt' interview reeks of hypocrisy IMO. Now i love the little fella as much as the next fan, but... if it was just to enable him to see out his career and beyond, isn't caning marwood and cook in the press, not damaging the very heart of the club he loves?
I think his old man is in his head, and yes normally, a parent's opinion is in the best interest, but this time it has the opposite affect. Sweep should continue to give his all, when called upon and the rest should take care of itself!

Bang on Pasta. 2 1/2 years left on your contract and the club don't want to discuss it now. There is plenty of time to sort it so stop washing your dirty linen in public. Maybe your 'advisors' should earn their cut and ADVISE YOU that Manchester City are not a club that will be dictated to by players anymore. For the record I would love him to stay for the next 5 years but he is going the wrong way about it.

Tbh mate i was smashed before the game kicked off, i was in their end with shitloads of us doing the conga, but looking back at the game did they hit the woodwork about 4 times? matt jansen was awesome that day, the gods were looking over us put it that way :)

Over the next few years City will be buying some of the very best players out there. Just a question: in one, two or three years time will SWP be our first choice right winger?

Don´t think he is an automatic selection NOW. Johnson and Bellamy are the preferred wide players. And given what I have seen that´s abour right.

The idea of giving a bench warmer a pay rise is a bit daft. Also all this talk of loyalty. Well he did leave us a few years back to join a better team. The irony is he rejoined us and we have since moved on.

I reckon this time next year he will be getting very few games. So in that case Marwood and Cook have got it about right. There is no hurry to extend his contract from the clubs point of view.

I think a bit of careful financial restraint would not go amiss bearing in mind the financial hits we are going to take on Jo, Robinho, Caicedo etc

From the club's perspective, I'm not sure it's about the extra £10k a week or so - surely it's the contract length? Sweep is 28 now, a 5 year deal means he'll be 33. To be a potenitally paying a winger £60k or £70k a week when he may well have lost his pace doesn't seem sensible to me.

Spot on, we have a few players who have contracts going on into their mid 30's now and for players who rely on pace that is a dodgy prospect. We shouldn't be signing anyone onto a contract that takes them past 31 years old unless it is an option that can be taken by the club. The only positions where 33/34 year olds can usually get away with it are CBs and GK, maybe holding midfielders.

If he want's a five year deal he will be like Danny Mills toeards the end of it. On a huge contract which makes him unsellable as City should have progressed to regular chimps league placing; and much better players will be here making Sweep look like Buster Phillips.

That's my point. I was using the future to highlight the best, but also least likely, scenario that SWP can expect. I'm with you, he isn't necessarily our first choice now, so to give him what he is asking only benefits, at this moment in time, one party, and that's SWP, not the club. In my eyes, the interest of the club should always comes first, therefore it's a no brainer; keep the contract in the drawer City.
