SWP in the Sun

I was absolutely fuming when I read this. I will say it again, Shaun has let himself and the fans down with all of this. He has been crap this season, has only had a handful of good games since he came back from Chelsea and to be honest if he came to me asking for more money I would tell him where to go.

If it is really about 'wanting to stay here forever' he should be signing whatever city put on the table (assuming it is not a decrease in his wages) and stop whinging.

If it is about wanting more money...well if I were Mancini I would call him into my office, explain that bad-mouthing the club in the national press is unprofessional behaviour, fine him a weeks wages and tell him that if he wants more money on an extended contract then he better get his little arse in gear and start doing some talking on the pitch.

Very dissapointed.

Such a piss take. And Ian Wright is just a truly unpleasant individual.

some fans on here are pathetic telling shaun to get us into the top for before he gets a new contact you obviously have forgotten some of the stuff he has done for us. Shaun deserves a new contract, he always played his heart out for city, even when we were shit he gave us moments to enjoy, all he wants is secure contract so that he knows he can stay at city, the club he loves, its the least he deserves.

cook and marwood sort it out, because my respect for you is slowly disappearing!
And you don't seem to understand what the club has done for him.We gave him his chance when he was told he would never make it ,when he didn't make it at Chelsea we took him back and gave him the chance to rebuild his career how many other clubs would have paid him what we offered?SWP has had a great career because of City so don't try and tell me the club now owes him.And yes I think 4th is a part of the equation if we don't finish 4th its because the players aren't good enough and SWP although plays with his heart is one of the players who hasn't been good enough so why should we pay more for players that aren't going to advance us?Loyalty can only go so far and good memories from 5-6 years ago don't warrant a longer contract on more money, put it this way if we didn't have the sheiks money would you be happy with a big raise in ticket prices to cover SWP's wage rise?

i'm very disappointed in SWP with this, cos its not going to help him or the club.

1) most contract talks dont happen until the last 2 years of a players contract unless they are in exceptional form like Rooney is atm. City would wait till next season, when they are in a stronger position than the player, so they can assess their form and see how that player fits in the plans of the manager. But with the uncertainty of Mancini and his rumoured 6 month trial to get the 4th spot, their could a be new manager in the summer who might not want SWP. maybe SWP knows this and doesnt want to risk being left out of the gravy train.

2) His advisors are shocking. he moved to Chelsea to "become a better player", which didn't work out well and ultimately cost him the World Cup squad place in 06 cos he hardly played. I'm sure his advisors were attracted by Roman's millions and knew City at the time couldn't afford to pay him anything more.

3) Ian Wright, needs to learn when to shut his mouth. Wrighty blurted this out last week in The Sun, the paper he was a column with, so obviously he's stuck on ideas to whinge about now Eriksson isnt here and Cappello is doing well. And obviously getting his son to blurt out this today in The Sun is a bad move 'cos City wont just cave in and give SWP what his wants when SWP has betrayed the "in-house" policy.

4) SWP form doesnt warrant a new contract, maybe if he was playing well with the likes of Tevez, Bellers etc, but he hasnt, the played well against Chelsea but that was only his half decent performance that i can remember this term. Maybe its true he doesnt fit in Mancini's midfield as an out and out winger, but its down to him to adapt and get more, not be whinging about a new contract when his current one runs out in 2 and a half years time.

I've always like SWP as a player and knew he left City one season too early. But he has bad advisors and a loud mouth father that comprises himself too much and he's finding that the new City do things as they choose too and arent dictated to by the players.

if its got nothing to do with money then why the hell mention that tevez earns double that, what dose it matter what anybody else earns hey shaun,, i wish i was 28 again playing for gods own club, id play for feck all mate in front of all theese fans what more could you want, oh i forgot about 100k a week jesus, 100K A FEKIN WEEK, if this is your club SHAUN then why dont you play for nothing i know quite a lot people who would, you have media attention you have kids wanting your name on there shirts, your in the england squad, jesus what else is there, come on now SHAUN just stick to playing football mate, you lead a very priveliged life, one that i can only dream about, its gonna take me 3yrs to earn what you get this week, christ man your a millionier just how much do you need, now tell your dad this and tell him to STFU.

He needs to realise the club isn't a charity. The contract he signed still has over two years left to run and if its so terrible why did he sign it in the first place? It seems to me that he's frustrated that he signed just before the takeover and that players coming in after him are on more money, but that's tough luck I'm afraid. Just because the club now has more money doesn't mean they should feel obliged to give him some of it especially when his contract is nowhere near running out. The timing of his comments is all wrong, he should concentrate on getting back in the first team and playing well, maybe then he'll get a ''better'' contract.

Great post mate. I agree with pretty much everything you've said.

I don't think anybody is questioning his allegiance to the cause, but the way he and his stepfather have gone about this whole thing is just tacky and classless.

I mean, the S*n? FFS!

I think you'd better read the thread agaiun KB. Nine peages of supposed Blues slagging off SWP and questioning, not only his allegiance, but his ability as well. Next they'll be chanting 'Judas' at him.
I only see these posters when they wanna slag something, anything concerning City and most of em have been here 5 minutes. I wish they'd fuck off and take their bile elsewhere.

You have to question his judgement though, at the very least. I love SWP but he and his fornicating fog horn of a step dad have played this all wrong.

I've not re-read the article but if my hazy memeory serves me correctly doesn't SWP say something along the lines of,

'City fans made me'
'I love the club and fans'
'i wanna stay for the rest of my career and beyond'
'It's not about the money'

Judgement wise i think he was trying to get across to the fans how he feels about us and the club. I can't recall him saying he wants more money or a bigger dressing room or peeled grapes before kick-off or anything bad.
Maybe the journo was going to do a different story based oin the contract situation but when he informed SWP of his intention Wright-Phillips (and crew) decided to get in first via an 'exclusive'? I don't really know but his words seem genuine too me and anyone who wishes to show my a direct quote from SWP where he says anything bad about City will get a reasoned reply.

It's the timing. Don't you think it's detrimental for us in the run in of one of the most important seasons in our recent history.

Shaun is obviously advised really fucking badly because whatever it is he wants, he can wait until the summer to kick up a ruckus about it. He'll still have two seasons on his contract, and there's a good chance he'll be going to the World Cup. He's got every opportunity to let his football do the talking.

The problem is that while Shaun might want to stay at the club "forever", the club itself is quite rightly not so keen on the idea. And why should it be?

He's 28 and has two more years left. I'm sure the club will re-evaluate its position in the next 6-12 months, but why on Earth should it be railroaded into signing what will be a very expensive contract that sees him through to his mid-thirties? What is it exactly that City stand to gain from doing such a ridiculously silly thing? Fuck all, that's what.

The club isn't "mugging him off" (whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean) or treating him like a youth team player; it's simply acting in a very sensible and prudent manner. He is a winger reliant on his pace and he has a very lucrative contract in place through to the age of 30. Whether he likes it or not, that's the best he'll get at any of the Premier League's other big clubs. And if he's still producing the goods in a year's time, it will no doubt be extended.

In the meantime, if he wants the security of a 5-year deal at the age of 28, may I suggest he contacts Bent Harry down at Spurs cos no serious club would give him such a thing. Just because he wants something, doesn't necessarily mean he should automatically get it, unless of course he is willing to waive his salary if his form dips half way through the new extended contract. What???? No?????? Thought not Shaun.

stonerblue said:

Even if he was to stick on the same weekly wage of 60k, a new 5-year deal now would needlessly tie City into spending an extra 9.36m that they simply don't need to commit to at the moment. How would that be logical?

As I said before, he isn't offering to stay with us for free, so whatever he's asking for is going to cost City more money.
