Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

Whilst it would be easy to agree, there are some exceptional young people about.
A young engineer has started at my place, he's 21, served an apprenticeship and is now in his first proper job.
His dad was in the raf, and has brought him up properly.
A very polite and well spoken fella, a pleasure to work with.
He's also keen to learn new skills, to help further his career.
Of course, it goes without saying that I'll soon be dragging him down to my level...

Should be given 200 hours of community service with a Conservation charity (TCV's a good one) maybe will think next time decides to vandalise.

200 hours? He should be forced to replant the tree and do community service until it has fully grown up. And then maybe some other youths can come along with a chainsaw every ten years or so and chop it down so he has to start again.

There's something definitely odd about it. For one thing, there doesn't appear to be a back cut.
At some point I would imagine the chain saw would get jammed and that would be the end of the foolishness.

Any lumberjacks out there that can shed some light on the cut?
@idahoblues ?
You'd have to reference which page has a picture of the cut. I hate to see an unclean stump left

200 days tree planting in the Northwest Territories should help him............full of black flies and mosquitoes to liven up his day and help him reflect on the decision he made.
