Sympathy applause

Don’t want to sound unsympathetic but...anyone else getting a little bit tired of people trying to get the crowd to applaud at particular times after the passing of members of the family/friends. It appears to me this is happening almost every week. I thought the club has a particular day of the year where fans who have passed are remembered, last home game of the year? Why must we do it during games? Am I being unsympathetic?

All loss is tragic to the family and, for me, very personal. Don’t want to upset people on here if this is very close to you as I am sure it is very raw for you. Should we be doing every game?
Exactly the sort of debate I signed up to Bluemoon for. Grumpy old tw@ts whinging about being asked to clap for a minute during a match. Now I'm off to the thread about not being able to get home for Strictly if I stay to the end

Yep.

It’s supposed to be a silence so make it a silence!

It is this whole ''well we did it for that person so we need to do it for this person...''

If you had asked most fans to name the Leicester chairman 3 weeks ago very few would have been able to do it (not a criticism, I don't know the name of more than 5 club owners). Years ago minute silences were maybe one a year (Remembrance day apart) now it seems to be one a month.

I recall when Princess Di passed away and City's next 2 games were away (minute silences at both), so it was 3 weeks later for our first game and City had to do a minute silence. I just refused to stand (such a rebel). People say it is respectful to have the silences - I turn it around and ask ''is it disrespectful not to have them? And the answer is no. I go to the cinema to watch a film, I go to a gig to see a band and go to football to watch a game, not take part in some orchestrated public display of emotion....

Them cunts will get a massive sympathy cheer after each and every one of our goals today and an extra one at full time

Something should be played halfway through halftime for reflective thoughts of friends, family, fans and whoever. I’d go for Elgar’s Nimrod.
