Taiwan.

China's position is that Taiwan is part of China.
China has claimed the airspace over the country and the waters around it.
Any infringement on these
borders leaves the intruding craft(s) open to lethal force.
I believe these restrictions came into force on 1st August this year.

As only 13 countries only recognise it as a soverign state and a country I have no idea.

The UN doesn't recognise it or the US, EU countries, pirselves, Canada India, Australia, NZ etc and it is clasified as a teritory so who decides???
If Russia were to lay claim to Taiwan, China would protect it.

Has anyone noticed that the US have military installations all around China in the Pacific, yet have an issue with 'chinese aggression' in that China wants to have ownership of a bit of territory that a quick check of the map shows is broadly equivalent to the UK claim to sovereignty over the isle of white? US foreign policy seems to follow the Scouse always offended never ashamed mantra.
Based on that argument we should have let the Argies own the Falklands? Or the French invade the channel Islands?

The closest equivalents to China/Taiwan are/were North/South Korea, East/West Germany and North/South Vietnam where one nation was split into two by war. In two of those cases those nations have reunited and it's probably only a matter of time before it happens to Korea and China also. Comparisons with the Falklands, Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight are a bit daft.

Tbf although I realise the good folk of Hong Kong should have a right to self determination, Hong Kong as under UK rule was a colonial anachronism with about as much validity as a Chinese claim to west Cumbria or Cornwall. It's basically part of China.
And obtained/leased by us in a disgraceful colonial 'war' centered around the Opium trade We got rich the Chinese got addicted.

I’ve no issue with that but the Chinese promised Hong Kong would keep their liberties etc. Had they kept their word then Taiwan would undoubtedly be more friendly towards the prospect of unification
I think China's take on liberty is different to ours.

No, I disagree. Taiwan elected this current government primarily because of its anti reunification stance.
Edit: But back to why this thread started. Couldn't Pelosi just have held back instead of visiting. One thing is for certain, if an invasion happens she won't be the one getting killed.
