Taylor for the Liverpool game

Was surprised to see five minutes added on at the end. Was more surprised that it didn't panic me at all. Once we regained the lead we were never going to lose it again.

Apart from that, think he got most right. Vinnie's was a good challenge, and Sterling could have been given or not, wasn't clear cut to me (said with the benefit of already having won).

The both feet off the floor and flying into a challenge out of control with studs showing rule, that you may not like, but is there for a reason.
Shall I dig it out for you? Or is that not funny enough?
Dig it out then. Be interesting as nowhere in the Laws of the Game are those things mentioned.

The criterion for a red card is “excessive force”. Was it excessive? No. Was it reckless (which is the criterion for a yellow)? Possibly but you could argue it wasn’t even that.

I didn’t think the Sterling one was a penalty t the time, I do now I’ve seen it again though as the first action is by Robertson to put his arm across to block the turn. I get why the ref didn’t give it in real time though.

To be completely honest, I don’t think either a yellow or a red would have been an incorrect decision for the Kompany tackle. Some can interpret it as reckless and endangering the opponent as there was definitely a scissor movement there as well as leaving the ground. I think he got his second leg trailing in enough time for it to justify a yellow though, although that is two very similar tackles in two games where I’ve thought they could be reds.

I really don’t think the ref had a bad game that needs highlighting or any clear or obvious errors though. I thought he interpreted some in our favour, some not. That’s exactly what I’d expect and want to happen tbh.

Two major decisions he got wrong
Vinnie’s yellow: the striker had no chance of winning the ball so threw himself, as is the modern way, at where it was anticipating a challenge (wow) and then launched himself with a double pike with twist. He should have seen yellow not Vinnie.

Sterling’s dive to the ground: was never going to do him any harm as the defender had him snugly wrapped up in both his arms as he turned to prevent an injury when he hit the deck. PENALTY ALL DAY LONG.

Apart from that he let the scousers get away with endless borderline, ie foul, challenges and Firminho to jump into every City player whilst pretending to go for the ball.

To be fair, it is mentioned in the rules as that’s what they mean by a lunge, which is classed as excessive force. Either a yellow or a red is a fair interpretation really, personally i think he managed to control it enough by the point of impact. I’m not sure I’d think the same
if it was a Liverpool defender on Aguero in the exact circumstance, to be completely honest...

Having seen Kompany's challenge from the different camera angles I think he was lucky not to see red, he was off the floor which is usually interpreted as being out of control.

Yep, largely agree with this.
