This thread is ridiculous...not in what it means, but why so many are leaving Ireland out of the team. Give me one reason why he shouldnt be in the team next season, even if we do sign some of these supposed Galactico's....he is better than them all and should be the 1st name on everyone's team sheet, regardless of who we buy!

Ireland is Superman

THIS
Put perfectly mate, IF ireland carries on then theres NO chance he should be dropped

ireland is superman

He has played VERY well this season, but he is no Kaka, Messi, Ribery. If we sign someone of that ilk then he would need to step up another gear.

I think we must put things into perspective...
Ireland was an average player in past seasons, young, but to be honest average. This season, under Hughes might i add, he has been coached and trained well. he is fitter, stronger, faster and has more confidence. He has played very well in probably 10 games, however, he has been very poor in a fair few games - i even forgot he was on the pitch at Blackburn til i saw him celebrating at the end - and in other games he has only been average (giving the ball away, lacking intelligence and awareness sometimes)!

I dont like how some of us Blues have been going overboard about him! He has improved, yes, but only to the point where he deserves to play in a Premier League team rather than a good Championship side!
He still has A LOT to improve on!

Whereas, Vincent Kompany has (of course this is only my opinion) NEVER had a bad game for us! Ive seen him make one mistake away at Stoke when we were on the edge of their box and he missed controlled it - in a full season, that's it! Now that's the first name on yer team sheet!

Re: Team for the opening day of next season

We need ...

Priority
1. A top drawer modern day "target man", one who can do the lot - hold up he ball in a 451, lead the line, run at defenses at pace, mesmerize the opposition with skill, can bully defenders and be a part of 30+ goals per season (goals and assists). Who's the hell's out there besides Santa Cruz and Drogba (I've prefer he latter - both are injury prone though)? Anyone?
2. A top quality center-back with composure on the ball, i.e. one who can build attack from the back and will ot buckle under pressure. Again I struggle to think of anyone available tat's good enough to take the place of Dunnie - our very own hoofmeister.
3. A fast as lightning, i.e. faster than Petrov, SWP, Bellamy in their prime, winger who can play either side. One who can cross, pass and run at goal with equal effectiveness.

Basically we have no depth in defense or attack.

Lower Priority
1. Another LB. I'm not sure we can take the risk of Bridge or Garrido just no cutting it. Maybe from the youth ranks.
2. Another CM. I know we'll have rouble fitting Kompany, DeJong, Zabbs, Ireland and if he stays Elano and if he's fit and still here Johnson into 2 or 3 positions but we could do with someone else top drawer. A YaYa Toure type. Again we aren't very deep if we hope to get anywhere on numerous fronts.

One person I cn't see us seriously going for is Villa. He's just not physical enough. Ribery or Robben yes. But who knows.

What's that? the dream team of midgets? None of the midfield or attack are above 5'5''! we'd get dicked on with that team!
We need a big man upfront, not somone like Shaq O'Neill who cant move or score, but someone in the mold of Mario Gomez, someone who could win a header or chest it down n lay it off for Ireland or SWP and who also has a clinical finish! Villa is not a striker he plays in the same position as Robinho, deeper than the front man!

I can see what your saying but at home it works for us now add some one like ribery and villa and we could be even better with the extra eye for goal and trickery. but u are right we need some 1 like santa cruz upfront in away games with bellamy working his arse off.
