Tenuous connections to Manchester City players old and new.

I used to work with lee the groundsman dad, lee used to get us tickets for the home matches
I’ve had a drink with Lee in my local, somehow we ended up sat with his group of mates - Someone in my group must’ve known someone in his.

I also live round the corner from Brian Kidd, maybe 200m as the crow flies. He’s lived there as long as I remember, at least 20 years, probably much more

Eric Nixon when on loan at Carlisle Utd, I was a mascot and put him as my favourite Carlisle player so I could get a photo with him, people on loan not usually picked so there was a few faced being pulled.
I was also a bit old to be a mascot as well tbh but my mates dad was match sponsor but he didn't want to be a mascot as he hated football.
Go on, tell us. How old?

Please say 17!

Ah, small world ! My Dad was Mr Johnson who taught Physics & Maths at Wilbraham for many years, became Deputy Head then acting Head.

He's a really lovely man & been a fantastic Dad, but by his own admission probably came over as rather strict (borderline fierce) as a teacher, with the younger kids ! Discipline & all that.

Wilbraham was a great school for creating / nurturing footballers in those days & had really successful teams, I believe, so you must have been pretty good ?
I was at Wilbraham around that time but a bit younger than Roger Palmer. Erik Nixon was in my class

Yeah loads of kids from our end of Longsight went to Burnage, even though Central was miles nearer. Think it depended where your primary school was

I think because it hadn’t long since been a grammar school, parents were still under the impression it was a cut above your normal Comprehensive. Plus, there didn’t seem to be any requirement for going to a local school in those days.

Once saw Mike Summerbee having his dinner in a Jamaican cafe in Ardwick in the early 1990s.

Stood next to him whilst having a piss at services on way to Southampton.Didn’t feel it was appropriate to ask for a picture!

I was the worst of a really good team! Half of them signed schoolboy forms with clubs at 16, City, a couple of lads to Stoke and one of my mates at Bolton. Roger obviously ‘made it’ and Nigel Hart (Johnny Hart’s youngest) also carved out a career in the lower leagues. I think Paul, his older brother, also passed through Wilbraham’s doors as did Clive Wilson.
I guess these days the schools around Prestbury will be basking in similar glory!!
