Tenuous connections to Manchester City players old and new.

Played for City old boys on a number of occasions even tho I’m still awaiting my debut for the first team

Got a picture of my old fella with the FA Cup in 1969, a little worse for wear, having been asked to look after the FA Cup during the players celebrations back in Manchester. Might be wrong but think it was in the Claremont. Belting photo btw

I don’t know if he ever cut the hair of City players but does anyone remember Harry Peters - the cheapest barber in town??
I assume that he’s long gone but his ‘salon’ was unforgettable. Shirts hanging up to dry, stew cooking on a stove……..

My mum's cousin, Peter Donoghue, (my first cousin once removed) led a consortium to buy City and organised a protest to remove chairman Albert Alexander in the mid 60's and had a rally at the Free Trade Hall.

An agreement was made for all parties to work together and Joe Mercer was appointed manager..... the rest is history.....

For added info, Peter Donoghue owned a string of laundrettes across South Manchester.
So rather than eventually being owned by a Rental TV Salesman, we could have been run by a bloke with a laundrette empire!

Here is a thread I started a few years back on the subject (where I wrongly described him as my 2nd cousin)

1963 or '64, stood next to Denis Law (a U****d player then) and Bobby Charlton on the terraces at Station Road, Swinton for a R.L. Challenge Cup replay against Widnes, a Wednesday afternoon game before floodlights. They'd come over after training at O.T. Denis stepped on my toe, said sorry, then said "ye like Swinton, do ye lad?", I told him yes they play in blue like City and he laughed. Bobby was quiet and glum.

Sportswashing?

I saw Mike Doyle on Ashton Under Lyne market in the 70s (with his kids on the roundabout)
A girl on my street dated Nicky Reid in the early 80s
My dad knew Dave Wagstaffe as a kid

My nephew went through school with Cameron Humphries, formerly one of our EDS lads. Made a couple of appearances for first team.

I sometimes see Kenny Clements doing his driving lessons.

As tenuous as it gets.

Was at school with the cousin of Geoff Lomax.
