According to the law he's innocent - this an FA farce, stupid w*nkers
Well the Law and the FA work under different burdens of proof. For the law you have to be guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. However, for civil cases and wit the FA you just have to be most likely guilty. The Judge concluded that Terry was most likely guilty and did not trust the either his or Cole's testimony, but it gave a reasonable doubt and so no charge could be made. Looking at the evidence and hearing his story, he probably did say it and will probably be found guilty, which is not what the FA want to do.

He's also facing a different charge. He was charged by the CPS with using using racially abusive words likely to cause alarm or distress. He was acquitted on the grounds that it wasnt proven that the words were used in such a way as to cause alarm or distress.

The FA are charging him with using racially abusive language. As was stated in the Suarez case, it doesnt matter whether the words (which he has admitted using) actually caused alarm or distress.

The FA didnt really have much choice than to charge him. If they hadnt they would have been wide open to the accusation of treating Suarez differently to Terry.
Has to be found guilty of the FA, but this charge is far less damaging for Terry. It does make him appear to be racist and he can easily save his reputation.

There is a bigger difference being punished for using racist abuse language to cause harm and just foolishly repeating racially abusive language in public.

Difficult one. If the charge is that he used the words, which he's admitted (but not in an offensive way) and he's guilty, where does Anton Ferdinand stand because he too has used the same words (I think admitted).

Ridiculous situation really and I think it has been blown out of all proportion and quite frankly I really couldn't care less if I tried about Terry, Ferdinand, Chelsea or QPR.

No I don't think Anton Ferdinand did admit to using the words. Anton's story is that he said something about Terry and then mentioned the Bridge situation. Then turned away and did not hear what Terry said. Only later did he catch the replay and then want Terry charged.

Terry's story is that Anton brought up the Bridge thing and Terry got angry and swore at him. Later on Anton he heard that Anton had accused of him of making those comments. So he shouted to Anton that he did not make those remarks (repeating what the remarks were).

Ashley Cole backed him up in court saying that Anton had accused of Terry of making those remarks and Terry's remarks caught on camera, were his denial.

Thanks nice summary, dont you think it's all a bit out of hand though - what is all this going to achieve at the end of the day?

Yes I do especially the court hearing. Think it should not have ever gone to court. However, once Ferdinand made a complaint the FA should have just dealt with it then and there. Given Terry a 3 game ban for repeating the word. Made it very clear he was not being punished for deliberately abusing Anton, but had been caught repeating unacceptable language on the pitch and had to face a punishment. Done and dusted.

Re: John Terry Retires from International Football

Taking away the fact that Terry is an individual that isn't well liked it looks like a storm in a teacup.

The Ferdinand brothers and Terry all stink to high heaven and should just be charged with being brainless arseholes.
