Cloughie at Leeds. Extreme example though. Not the norm.
Ron Saunders at City in 1974.

There are plenty of others where club chairmen felt they had to choose between players and manager and they decided to ditch the manager.

Ok then heres the scenario....City sack Bob and keep Tevez...

City put managerial job vacancy on the Internet,it may as well go sommat like this...

Manchester City football club require new Manager who must agree to bow down to unhappy players and training methods or we'll fook you off...

yeah right.

What some people seem to have done is ignored the quotes from Mancini and settled on the spin.

I am really pleased that Mancini feels able to tell players they can leave if unhappy as he would surely be working to agreed priciples with the board ?

We also get a glimpse into citys strategy as he talks about winning at city is MORE important than winning at real or barca as the always win.

Some interesting and positive stuff in there if you ignore the reporters spin

Read the Gary James post. Thanks Gary for putting it in perspective.

Location: Publisher's Facebook page: "James Ward Publishing" Already today there are several posts talking about what has been written about City in today's nationals.

Some of these talk of rifts between Tevez, Mancini and others. Some talk off players being told they can leave and so on.

I feel compelled to write this post in the hope that some sense is shown. Please ignore the reports. If we comment specifically on them and keep threads going then we'll be adding fuel to their stories.

I was going to post these comments on the more negative posts about Tevez & Mancini but, to be frank I don't want to give any more fuel to those sensational stories.

I attended the press conference yesterday and saw how the media questioned Mancini. Mancini was professional, calm, organised. He was impressive. Some journalists did not get the amount of material from him they would like (I have some sympathy with local media on that), but there were clearly different aspects to the press conference.

There was a different tone when the press conference moved on to the nationals. The majority of their questions were about other clubs (Inter Milan, Liverpool, Chelsea and United), but they also pushed one line about 'will you be sacked' and another on Tevez. The questions they asked went along the lines of: Tevez is unhappy with your training what do you think? The answer was always the right one, along the lines of "I have talked with him". "What did you say?" "It's private. He seems happy now". "Tevez has said he wants Champions League football, what's your view" "Every player should want Champions League football. That's the same for Tevez, Adebayor..."

It was all like that. He never said that he would be happy for Tevez to leave or that Tevez will leave, what he actually said was about ambition. And surely every player should have ambition to play in the Champions league?

I came away from the press conference thinking that Mancini is undoubtedly the right man for the job, but was of the opinion that the press wanted to catch him out. They wanted to create headlines.

So, please ignore anything that's written that talks about rifts, players leaving, negativity and so on. That's journalists doing what they need to do to sell papers.

After the press conference I saw some of the players and Mancini working with them. It was all good natured and positive. They were working together and I came away thinking that we are in a great position and that we stand a real chance of winning the next 3 games.

Ignore the negative media spin and focus on what actually is said.

I think you're absolutely right. I was just illustrating that there have been examples of player power getting rid of a manager.

Well if it come down to them both then bye bye tevez. Whats going to happen if tevez gets his way and we bring someone else in and then he falls out with them, are we going to sack them aswell?

Get on with it tevez ffs and stop crying over extra training. You have the easiest job in the world on stupid fucking money so an extra training session is fuck all compared to the money your on.

I hope, sly man.

Lets be honest this man for his own good has turned Tevez into a multi millionaire, supported him through some tough times and been there for him all the way through his rise up the game

I should imagine that Kia is not only his agent but his friend, i would also imagine Kia wants more money out of him, but blaming him for this is a bit much

Hello kia arsehole.

was agreeing with you bud..in my own silly way :)

I find all these rumours of unrest very confusing. What is it that seems to be making supposedly a fair number of players so unhappy? Mancini seems like a likeable bloke and he has come in and improved results and got the club genuinely challenging for 4th. What more do the players want? Is this seriously about having an extra training session every now and then? If so, then it is just ridiculous. Of course Mancini is boss and no way would I want the club to back players over managers, it would be the thin end of the wedge, however, it may be an idea for Mancini to sit down with the squad, discuss the issues they seem to have and try to work things out. There has to be a better way than just letting our best players go at the drop of a hat. If it is to do with potentially not qualifying for the CL, well firstly they should be busting their bollocks to get us in to it over the next week or so and then it's not an issue but secondly they must have realised that it might take more than just one season to achieve. Thought the following line was fantastic, a couple of championships with us would be worth about 10 at Barca in real terms:

"the important thing is to win with a club that has not won anything for a long time. This is more important than winning with Real Madrid and Barcelona, who win every year. Changing the history of this club is another thing.”
