Tevez For Eto'o...Straight Swap?

Re. tomorrow's Independent, Ian Herbert does seem to have decent contact(s) at City. Certainly he has written the best articles this year on Mario.

It is interesting that the article claims that Mancini has fancied signing Eto'o since early in the summer.

Allegedly, last week, Eto'o turned down a highly lucrative offer from a Russian club. If correct, it does confirm that he is not just concerned with the money. My own feeling is that he would be interested in coming to City for the right reasons. But it would be up to Mancini to make sure of that.

I hope that the 'Board' does not hold against Eto'o the fact that he turned 'us' down before. He took a perfectly rational decision that proved to be correct for him. Moreover, we are not the same 'us': we have a different manager, a very different squad of players and Champions League football. (If it is correct that Joorabchian is his 'advisor', I can understand the Board not being thrilled about that.)

This is what I think now. Just the general vibe I get from him, how he was around our players and playing us, his attributed comments refusing to rule out moving here.

Of course he allegedly stalked Mark Hughes to get a move here two years ago, although even if that's true it's possible back then it was more about the size of the contract (and at that stage in our development with FFP not a cert yet it would surely have been gargantuan). But now I think he genuinely fancies the footballing project here and would like to be a part of this team.

Yes, Eto'o turned down a move to Anzhi that could have made him the 2nd or 3rd highest paid player in Europe behind Ronaldo and Messi if he'd accepted.

can anyone copy in this article from the independent, i've looked on their site and can't see anything.

The Cameroon star said: "I have received some very interesting offers from England and during my month's holiday I will look at the situation.

"I am 30, which is the perfect time for me to sign my last big deal. But the money is not the key for me."

That's reported four days ago, presumably quoting from earlier - but I'm sure I've seen some more recent ones where he says something like ''Manchester City? Anything can happen...'' but I can't find them now, I'm half sure they got referenced in this thread somewhere along the line though, on the forum certainly.

The following does not include an explicit reference to City but rather suggests that, by implication, he was not ruling us out:

I have just deleted something re Eto'o and Mario published in the Sun. I posted it believing it was today's date. In fact, it was (coincidentally) August 2nd of last year!

Gist: Mancini wants a straight swap but the board is unconvinced.
