No. He didn't 'basically save us'. He did what no chairman had ever dared do before. Mortgaged the entire club. All of it.

Did he or did he not choose the right time to bow out? Did he or did he not link us to the right investers? For pushing us towards the posistion we are in now Id fucking kiss him. Fuck everything else.
He had no choice. The £30m loan he took out just before he sold out was mortgaged against our Sky money for the next two years. We were on the verge of going under at one point before that as we couldn't pay the second instalment for Sven's players. There was almost certainly a deal with the Thai authorities that they'd let him do a runner if he gave up the club.

It may be right that he did the deal with Abu Dhabi so I guess we might owe him that, when Comical Ali was supposedly trying to flog us for years without success.

That is what I mean mate. Whatever his reasons, or the circumstances, he passed us on to better hands. Without him we would be in the Championship now, another Derby, Leeds, Forrest etc etc.

to put it to a point without thaksin i really do not think the arabs would of bought us.

...some very short memories on here...Thaksin Shinawatra saved this club from going under....full stop.
Yes, but we would in even greater shit if he had continued to the chair the club. The truth was in August we couldn't afford to pay the second installment of players already bought under Sven.

Thaksin overall was a negative influence and megalomaniac. He was however, a saviour at the time and responsible for being the key link in the transition of the club from being relegation fodder to the opportunity to be the best club in the world.

I thank Thaksin for making us an attractive option to the Sheik. But this is all Mansour's doing.

Yes.
Now get to bed...

Thaksin deserves a lot of praise for the way he managed City.

It should be noted that the people who accused Thaksin of his crimes were an unelected military junta.

The people of Thailand have just voted again, and once more have voted for a person alligned with Thaksin.

With a bit of luck he will now get his lolly back.

Its also interesting that one of the new prime minister's favourite bands is Oasis.

You couldn't make it up.
