Thank You, Ilkay Gundogan

Certainly makes sense after that weird Instagram post about Manchester not having any restaurants or whatever.

What is it with footballers wives being obsessed with shit restaurants...
Most of them couldn't give a toss about what their husband wants and wouldn't go anywhere near them if they weren't footballers.

Gold diggers

A geriatric Gundogan would be 10x the player Kovacic will ever be. And no hate to Kovacic, he’s a decent player.

Some footballers are just on a different level. Gundogan is in the same bracket as KDB for me.

Gundo would love the current situation we are in chasing down Arsenal and the dippers. March, April is when he steps up in the big games. He would have brought a lot more composure to that 2nd half at Anfield last week.

We win that game comfortably with him in the side.

Interestingly the missus & I watched a couple of episodes of Married to the Game on Amazon which features both Gundo's & Mahrez's partners filmed last summer when they all had to transition to new clubs.

Quite surprisingly both partners seemed more upset in moving & leaving behind the friends & connections made in Manchester than Gundo & Mahrez. Riyad came across as a bloke who's used to moving around & didn't really care about moving from Manchester.

Meanwhile Gundo's partner actually seemed a bit gutted about the move & cited it was Ilkay's dream to eventually play for Barcelona one day which he confirmed on screen.

Weird.

Gundo strikes me as a pretty intelligent guy. Surely he knows that 2010 Pep Barcelona is a long way away from 2024 borderline bankrupt shit show Barcelona.

Gundogan got out at the top, Fulfilled all his dreams and loved the club and fans.
Also, He did not want to stop progress and knew Foden was ready to step up and play every week

Some Players will just sit on a contract and be happy on the bench for a couple of seasons, But how can you stay and milk the club you love, All the great times and wonderful moments you had will be forever and set in stone and you become a legend,

Legends don't sit on the bench

He is as illustrated in the previous All or Nothing City tele series but as we've seen with most football players the 'legacy clubs' still do seem to hold some nostalgia with them most likely during their youth.

Personally thought it was the right time for him to leave City, especially on a high & for us to build again rather than kick the can down the road. He really only a hit the purple patch for us later on in his career with us. However, still would rate him as one of the classiest City's captains I've witnessed - his leaving letter almost had me in tears & typified what kind of character he is. Hope he does come back to us in some sort of coaching capacity once he eventually hangs up his boots.

I don’t quite agree and think he had another couple of seasons at the top in him but these things are subjective and your point of view is a valid one.

There was a thread on here about him leaving at the end of 21/22 and most agreed it was the right time to leave etc, then a week or so later we beat Villa 3-2.
