The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

Whilst I may have numerous prejudices with this band, I am willing to give it a shot.

First listen, what struck me most was the delicacy and profundity of the lyrics. Some of the tracks could have been written by Dylan. For example:

You're sitting in your seat
And then you stand and clutch your breast
Our music drives you wild along with the rest

You watch me singing this song
You see what my mouth can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to

And you watch me playing guitar
And you feel what my fingers can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to
Well, listen!

I will undoubtedly enjoy further hidden diamonds the more listens I give it. Back to the headphones...

Just listened, not for me and still hate them with a passion.lol.
Couple of riffs that are okay but lyrically shite and the same backing vocals in the choruses annoying.
Singer not very good and I really hated the drumming.Something I have never said before.
The singer really struggled in the slower numbers.
Makes you wonder if they never wore make up and stuck his tongue out would they have been so big.
2/10 might have been 3 but for the shite that is Great Expectations.

You're sittin' in your seat

You see what my mouth can do
And you wish you were the one I was doin' it to

And you feel what my fingers can do
And you wish you were the one I was doin' it to
Well, listen
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You're dying to be seen
And you wave and call my name
But in the day it seems that I'm a million miles away
You watch me beatin' my drum
And you know what my hands can do
And you wish you were the one I was doing it to
Well, listen
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
Then you feel these eyes from the stage
And you see me starin' at you
And you hear between the lines, my voice is callin' to you
Well, listen
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
(Do you wanna play the role?)
You've got great expectations
(You'd even sell me your soul)
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
You've got great expectations
(Do you wanna play the role?)
You've got great expectations
(You'd even sell me your soul)
You've got great expectations
(As long as you can play the role)
You've got great expectations
