The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

“Movin’ Out” is passable. The fact that we are quibbling over two pretty trivial pieces of art should say a lot about him. Anyway, he’ll never be forgiven for the musical sin of “Just The Way You Are” among many other god-awful songs (add fucking “Innocent Man” to the list of songs he should be — ironically — jailed for).

He got rich; Randy Newman didn’t. There is no justice in this world.
I was going to stick his top tracks on spiffy earlier but looking I realised I more or less knew them all and they were all indeed pretty anodyne. I remember having the single Movie' Out and liking the b side (Vienna) but really there are much better singer songwriters to listen to.

I prefer Spinal Tap.
There is a lot of Tap here. Tap was a satire on many bands other than KISS but the parallels are pretty clear. My favo(u)rite comedy of all time. I have a friend, a single woman who I used to work with, who told me once that she fundamentally judges the suitability of men based on whether or not they like that film, figuring those who don’t will never be right for her and her sense of humo(u)r.

Does she ask them to smell the glove? And if they DO, literally smell a glove, then they're not right for her...?

I . . . don’t think so. But if you don’t laugh out loud at the scene where Derek Smalls gets stuck in the pod during “Rock ‘n’ Roll Creation” then she should quite rightly have nothing to do with them.

Your friend's got her head screwed on.

Randy Newman not rich?

Did he not get paid for his Disney work?
