There’s times in here when you seem to write what I’m thinking. I’ve noticed in recent reviews too.I also think, for me at least, bookmarking ones to come back to is as important as listening 3 times, scoring and moving on.
For some people, 3 listens might be enough. For some albums, 3 listens might be enough. I am not one of those. There honestly isn't a single album that I really like, that I can say I knew I liked after just 3 listens. Some of my favourites took me a while to love. Most of the good ones take time to settle.
Going back to things that stood out even slightly on here is worth doing imo.
This where I am on my current choice. I don’t think three listens is enough. It wasn’t for me and yet there was something about it that kept me coming back for another listen over the whole summer.
It is part of the reason I chickened out of taking my turn last time. I couldn’t get my own head around it never mind explain bro you lot.
I’m still at odds over to go with my instincts next time or choose a more accessible album from the artists.
Complicated?
I’m not up for ages anyway. I’ll change my mind a few times in between.
Anyway this is derailing from @OB1 s choice.
One thing I will say about the VH pick is that I liked it better with each listen even though it’s not my thing. A bit like The Smiths choice.
What it probably shows to me about all our choices of band/artist is that we are probably all guilty as fans of whoever, of thinking they are better or more important than they are.
However conversely, we are equally guilty of dismissing certain bands over time that don’t mean as much to us and not crediting their body of work that we haven’t listened to.
What I’m saying generically is; they’re not as good as fanboys make out but not as bad as detractors make out.
