The battle for 3rd place

I don't think any of us expected to be mildly concerned about achieving the bare minimum this season. Good win today but tougher tests to come.
 
Win away at Southampton & we're in a very strong position. Easy place to go & drop points though.

Definitely. They're a bit more vulnerable at the back without Van Dijk, and have lost some goals with Gabbiadini getting injured - not sure when either are back (probably just in time for next week knowing our luck) - so it's a good opportunity to go there and get the points if we turn up.

If anyone will catch us it will be Arsenal because they do this every season. Once that last international break is over its win after win for them.

In regards to United I think we should be thankful their fixture list looks a shocker for an end of season run-in.

Not thankful we all play the same games and if they'd had them fixtures earlier they wouldnt be anywhere near us now.
 
Looking at the games left there is not issue at all us getting top 4. 3rd spot all day long. Take the FA Cup fingers crossed at least the final and move on.

United will win the Europa though I reckon. Well they should considering who is left in it.

Lyon look decent though.
 
Te rags have to play us, Arsenal and Sours away from home and Chelsea at their place, I think a good return for them would be 5 points. one win, two draws and a defeat. Even if they then won the remaining 4 games it would mean the best they could achieve would be 17 points. That would put them on 71 points. We would need 12 points to finish above them from a possible 21.
 
How many people thought that at this stage of this season we'd be doing various "what if" scenarios in order to convince ourselves that we would be able to finish top four?

With this squad, this season, it's disappointing.

Spurs are seven points ahead of us. Spurs. Chelsea are ahead by double figures. Liverpool have been poor this season and had no Europe to bother about and are ahead of us. Arsenal have imploded again and if hey win their games in hand are 1 point behind us. Utd have their worst squad for years and are in the same position as arsenal.

League cup gone. Champs league regressed, knocked out by Monaco.

Very disappointing. Very poor.

If we are here again half way through next season I would expect a change of manager.

You expect a change of manager if we're 3rd/4th halfway through next season?! Give over.
 
Routine win for us today. Not bothered about Chelsea or Spurs any more as they're home and dry in terms of the top four. Disappointing that Liverpool won, but it's a four horse race now for the remaining two positions. If either United or Arsenal drop points it's a good weekend. Still think we'll be OK because of the remaining fixtures but it's going to be close. Closer than we would've liked or expected at this stage of the season though.

There's plenty of tough games left for Arse and scum, including them playing each other. We should be fine.

Which is where we are not challenging and unless something unexpected happens we wont struggle to finish top four, rags, dippers and arsenal are the struggling ones.
