The battle for 3rd place

Take top 4. Should be in Champs League.

Feeling good about what next season could be actually it's Pep's first season, I think some correctable things can easily happen and take the team to the level we all want.

This season has been very up and down and we are still in the thick of it.

Chelsea are not that impressive in truth.

With the right moves City should be favourites.

Apart from wanting City to win every game, I struggle to get excited about 'top4', a good second could get me excited but im not really bothered about finishing between 3rd to 6th

I think we will finish 3rd, as it happens but the Europa League has some benefits - it's weaker, so we have more chance of winning it and that competition was the making of Kane, maybe Garcia, Maffeo etc could get similar experience

8 or so games to go. Sit back and enjoy the ride

Much the same as you but would prefer to win our remaining games for no other reason than I much prefer it more when we win.

I think the days of being in the Chumps League and going deep and wining the premiership are coming to an end.

If Chelsea are serious about going back to back next year they might have to do what Spurs did this year or better still finish bottom of their group.

The rags have Everton mid week and Sunderland next Saturday

We have Arsenal and Chelsea away, followed by Hull next Sat

The rags are currently on equal games and four points behind us

By next Saturday evening the rags may only be one point behind us with a game in hand

stop looking down, you'll fall.

That's the spirit

Well we've half escaped as Everton and Bournmouth have done us huge favours

Trouble is we have not improved in any way shape or form from last season .some of the tactical changes from the manager leaves not only the fans baffled but but also the players .and not to have any of the academy lads pushing for a place is not good as it does not show confidence in the youth set up

Yes we have.

Stones is a different class to Mangala and Demichellis and will only get better. Sterling has improved and Sane looks like he can be one of the best around. On top of that, our away form is one of the best in the league and our style of play is much more positive than it has been for years

I think the players do know what they should be doing, they are just not very good i.e Clichy, Cabellero or rash like Fernandinho

I can't see us losing another game this season

Is too 4 enough in the unlikely event scum and Leicester win the European trophies and scum finish fifth or sixth in league?

While a couple of players might have improved and developed a bit as a team we have.not improved the tactics at times baffle the players as well as the fans we all no some of the players are just.not good enough to play how Pep wants us to play but he keeps playing them instead of trying to develop someone from the academy

well if scum win Europa then it's still 4 from the prem, highest placed 4 (should they finish 4th or better)

i think that is the same as Leicester, England will still get 4 places, potentially 6 overall, but not certain on that one.

But when the season ends we wouldn't have improved from a season review point of view. Last year we finished 4th, semi of the champions league and a cup. We aren't going to make big steps forward from that are we? That's with the same team and some quality additions. Some players like you listed might be playing better although I don't agree with the Stones comment - I think he will come good but he hasn't been great. As a collective we have pretty much stood still. I think the saving grace for Pep is at times we look really good and that's with some very limited players. With better players who have the ability and understanding of what Pep wants then we will only get better.

It was a bit of a transition season however we have still underperformed.

I read on here that if this scenario happens 4th will lose its spot to Leicester

I actually don't care. It might affect who will want to join us in the summer mind you.

But europa is tougher so if we end up in that competition it may stunt our season further

It depends how you review the season:
  1. Last season we finished 4th, I think we will finish 3rd this season
  2. Last season we won the League Cup, I would argue the FA Cup is stronger and if we win that, I would say that is an improvement as it is a better trophy
  3. Last season we got to the semi of the CL - I really don't like this comparison. Reason being, we beat Kiev and PSG, both were shit and we dodn't have a shot on target against the first decent team we played. We had a favourable draw

It is all down to opinions, but I think we are a different team than last season and I think the way we impose ourselves or at least try to impose ourselves in big games, is a credit to the team and the manager. Not least because some of out players are limited

I'm not sure about either of those points

Point 1 - we signed Yaya and Silva whilst not having CL football
Point 2 - does it really? I'd argue that all teams in the Europa League are not capable of winning the Premier League in the first place, rest or no rest. Furthermore, we could rest our better players because we would be playing against shit teams and Maffeo, Garcia, Ihancheo, maybe even delph would have been able to show what they could go. Like Kane did?

I expect we will all our remaining Prem games with the exception of Southampton away. That will leave us on 79 pints and a top 3 finish.

Well it's all irrelevant until the end of the season really isn't it and guessing the outcome and conveniently guessing it works out better than last year means nothing.

FA Cup is of course stronger but if we get past Arsenal we are then in a final with 1 of 2 teams and we have beat neither this season over 2 games each. Not saying we can't win it anything can happen in one game but it's all ifs and buts again to suit an argument that we have progressed. We simply wont know that until the end of the season and even if we won the FA cup and finished 3rd whilst it is progress I highly doubt it is the kind of progress we expected after the summer investment.

How about this champions league comparison, we beat PSG who was the runaway leaders in the French league, there wasn't even a contest. This year we went out to the team top of the French league by 3 points.

We have and should be accepted on the whole been poor this season with some exciting glimpses. This will only get better for next year
