The battle for 4th place

Sense Pmsl.... Are you both high? If Liverpool/Utd finish above us they will sign better placyers due to them being in the CL. We'll struggle to sign that top tier if we don't make the top 4 and if Spurs Arsenal Liverpool and Utd all four strengthen with some quality players how is that a good thing for us?
Liverpool won't be top 4.

Who cares where we finish? It's just football and we'll all be back again in August for another go!

Most of those who can't stomach the idea of a 5th or 6th finish do so as they can't stand United potentially being above us. There's no trophy for 4th, they are regardless still shite, and by Xmas they'll be back in the Europa anyway.

Conversely, we did win a trophy this year, and could still sneak the Champions League. Even if we do end up in the Europa League, we can play the EDS early doors to give them experience and 100% attack next year's Premier League.

Chill out. It just ain't that important.
I think Pep will care where we finish. I think Sheikh Mansour's boardroom representatives will also care where we finish if it means knocking a hole in our spending plans, and it may well be a cause for concern for our targeted signings if the C/L is the place they wish to be.

Being in the Champs League is important even if you personally don't give a toss about it. Financially it's important, it helps attract the best players, it's important for the image of the club trying to establish ourselves as one of the best teams in the world. Also I doubt Pep is going to be over the moon being in it either. Europa is a shit competition and us not being in the champs league with the team we have is fucking unacceptable. We miss out and it's a fuck up of epic proportions.

I can't fathom how some people can think finishing in the top 4 isn't important.

It's not looking good at all now for us.
Can see another defeat in our last 4.

The Arsenal game could be pivotal, problem is it's a few days after Madrid and if that game goes into extra time then were screwed. Our hope could rest on winning the CL but that's highly unlikely given that crap served up last night.

Have faith peeps. We will be in the CL one way or another. Also United won't win their remaining four games!

I think you forget most city fans started supporting the club when we always finished well behind them, and had apparently no chance of overtaking them.

The reason we would be concerned is
1. We are a much better team and should be well ahead if then, not in danger if losing a champion league place to them of all teams
2. Next year would be a critical year of transition when we would need to buy several new players, and the loss of status and financial muscle from not qualifying for CL would hurt.

I care, I don't want Europa League and who know Pep may have a change of heart if we fail to get top 4.

the premier league should always be a priority and MP's appalling tactics throughout the season has meant we are now in a scrap for 4th place.

Utd's hardest games are both Westham and Leicester so hopefully both those will take some points off them but the way we are playing we will also drop points (potentially vs arsenal and Southhampton and maybe even stoke this weekend if we play like we did last night)
The chelsea game lulled everyone into a false sense of security - we played ok but most of the chelsea players were already sat on the beach and last night we struggled as we have done against all teams who put us under pressure in the middle of the park (which chelsea didn't)

You can bet your life arsenal will when they come to our place and Southampton won't make it easy either.

If we don't get top 4 MP has failed miserably in my eyes considering the squad he has

Unlikely to win it based on what was served up last night, but if the Madrid game goes into extra time, were screwed. Isn,t that a tad contradictory ?

Not that it should happen to us given the financial strength of the owners but you just have to remember Leeds and what happened to then to understand the impact of not finishing within CL places.

And there would be a major benefit of denying manure - if they miss out for 4-5 years in a row the impact on their sponsorships, their "global" fanbase and most importantly ability to compete for top players would be pretty huge amount

Pep will be here what ever and the players we want will be too! Fans getting there knickers in a twist about top 4 personally I dont care if we finish 6th! If we cant win the league The fa cup is the trophy i want then the league cup and we already won that.

A win against Stoke and Swansea.

A draw at Saints would be a great point.

As BlueMatt23 says the Arsenal game could be pivotal.

Thank goodness Nasri will be fresh for these games.

A lot could depend on whether Vardy is suspended for the rags game.

I agree we played poorly. But no worse than how we have played for most of the season. Entirely predictable and I am therefore happy enough with the point. Means we have to beat Stoke

I don't think we should ever be happy about that type of performance whether it has been happening all year or not (and I agree with you it has)

We were shit last night but we are 10-12 points wise so hopefully last night was a blip. If not it will nothing more than we deserve. Hopefully Clichy will be fit cos if that useless twat Kolorov has to play any more games this season then we are in trouble

Liverpool won't be top 4.

I don't think they'll drop a single point in their remaining fixtures, and that notwithstanding they look a good bet to win the Europa League anyway. I'm at a loss to understand why so many people on here think they're shit. They've got a great manager, who espouses a high octane pressing game that has seen them get progressively stronger as the season has gone on - they've won 9, drawn 4 and lost just 1 of their last 14 fixtures. We will need at least 8 points from our remaining 4 fixtures to finish above both them and the rags, and resting players against Stoke is not an option IMO

Finishing top four not only good for us, but the severe damage it would do the rags to be out for another year !! This would be a lifeline for them if they make it.

You can bet your life he will be suspended

worse scenario is that utd beat us to 4th and spurs win the league!!!!!!!!!!
