The Best Decade for Music

For me the 70's, closely followed by the 60's

C,mon all you chavvy kids convince me that theres been anything good since 1985
Corrected.

The best music I've ever heard is 1960s and 1970s African pop music. Late 1950s is pretty good (like jazzy Latin rock'n'roll) and early 1980s before electronic instruments (drums and synth) came in when they started recording more with the 'better' facilities and white producers in Paris and Brussels than in their own capitals. Those guys had a real feel for music.

The music trend parallels American music (which includes all the stuff over here, excepting folk) and the older Africans think the modern African music is every bit as bad as we think modern American music is.

Every decade has its claim to fame..

Since 1985 and the first rumblings of chigago house in this country the dance scene is still going so to speak..although not at its heights of the Nineties..

Difficult one...

60s had some great band's, a lot off stuff I love from that era. Doors, Floyd, cream. And more. Late 80s for me, acid house, alternative dance...

Bring on the acid

Floyd more 70's I think..

2 good albums in the 70s two great albums in the 60s. I'd go for the latter

Meddle and Wish You Were Here?

Every decade bar one. The 80s was a dreadful decade (i should know i was a DJ at the time)Crap music, crap politics, crap football and crap clothes. Began to get better towards the end of the decade before the rebirth of music in the early Ninetees.

On first look, yeah ... but then I discovered some great bands in the 80's ...

The Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade, Green On Red, Bangles, Husker Du, REM, Hoodoo Gurus, The Church, Cocteau Twins, Icicle Works, The Stone Roses, Jason & The Scorchers, Let's Active, Del Fuegos, True West, Long Ryders, Jellyfish the list goes on ... so for me the 80's was one of the best decades musically.

I don't think it's fair to include the 10's, 00's and even the 90's stuff in debates like this because it hasn't really had chance to settle down.

The Velvet Underground, for example, were unheard of until 1975 but are now a highly influential art rock band with t-shirts, albums and singles selling even today.

Give something time before you slag it off.
