Thanks for the link, FI. Sent in an application yesterday for a vacancy I reckon would suit me down to the ground. Just hope Arriva agree.

Aldi to hire 5,000 staff in UK this year
The discount retailer is looking to accelerate its dramatic growth and is looking for extra staff to cope with the increasing popularity of the German chain

The discount retailer Aldi is looking to accelerate its dramatic growth in the UK by hiring 5,000 more staff this year.

The retailer wants to recruit the staff for new stores, but also for existing stores that need extra workers to cope with the increasingly popularity of the German chain.

The latest industry data shows that Aldi is growing at a record pace of 36.1pc as shoppers turn away from the traditional “big four” grocery chains – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons – in their droves.

Aldi has more than 500 stores already in the UK but in 2014 is looking to open roughly 55 new stores and extend almost 30 existing sites.

In order to cope with the influx of new staff, Aldi is creating an academy at its distribution centre in Middleton, Greater Manchester. This academy will help to train full-time and part-time staff.

James Hutcheson, the managing director responsible for the Aldi Academy, said: “It is undoubtedly a challenge for Aldi to recruit thousands of staff during the next nine months, but with roles available in all UK stores, we believe there is a strong desire to work for a successful and growing retailer.

“Our stores are becoming much busier, so we require additional staff to maintain the excellent customer service which our customers expect.”

Among the 5,000 staff, Aldi is looking for 150 new store managers and 400 assistant managers.

Aldi opened its first store in the UK in Birmingham in 1990. It initially endured mixed fortunes as the discount model failed to achieve the popularity it has in Germany, the company’s home market.

Aldi’s share of the UK grocery market is 4.7pc, compared to 28.7pc for Tesco.

They pay a decent salary as well.

Would it be possible to make a sticky for all the company recruitment links? They can be added accordingly.......

It would be an excellent reference for those seeking employment.

Does anyone have any experience of online assessments for graduate jobs?

I have just finished my degree in electrical and electronic engineering (hope to get a first) and I am contemplating applying for some graduate jobs. I have also worked in the semiconductor industry for 13 years.

I am just after what is entailed with the online assessments for graduate jobs and if anyone has any tips to do well in them.
