The Boxing thread

Why don't they have VAR in Boxing to check for a clash of heads? You'd think so with the amount of money involved. Not sure how that would have helped Parker if he was feeling it, maybe give them a minute to recover and get checked by the doc?

I agree with your sentiment but in this case the head clash coincided with a decent body shot from Whyte so it was just about ok for me. Like another poster I think it was a big turning point because he looked sharp and strong in the first two rounds but after that clash of the heads everything drained for him. They're questioning his character but I personally think he's not the kind of boxer who will look as uninterested as that without reason.

Taylor would have a shot at Croker I reckon with the right opponent and undercard, every boxing fan in the country would be looking for a ticket along with most of the casuals.

She'd piss filling the point and there would be a lot of people annoyed that they couldn't get a ticket.

No chance she would fill out Croker. The only person to that would be Conor McGregor. On her own as a headline the 3 arena would be easy done. Landesdown Road could be a option with a really good support act. Get the likes of Jason Quigley on in a World title fight too as co main event would be a sell out. Add in the likes of Ormond , Luke Keeler and Spike O Sullivan and if TJ Doheny wins the World title in Japan at Super Bantamweight get him back home for a homecoming fight. We have loads of Irish fighters boxing around the World from down South that are on the verge of maybe winning a World Title TJ and Quigley and Spike is maybe 2 fights away from fighting for 1. Yet since the bullshit that has happened in Dublin with the killing at the weigh in the boxing scene is nearly dead down here yet we got some amazing talent all over Ireland.

regarding VAR in boxing reviewing clash of heads. Not a bad idea always can review it in between rounds. And if a knock down was given just cancel it. Sure the ref in the ring should be able to call it 9 times out of 10. So really not much need for it.

I really enjoyed last nights two main events, the Chisora fight was like a Rocky movie. I would honestly give Whyte a chance against Wilder, he broke Parker down with body shots and strength and would have nearly three stones on Wilder so could potentially do the same to him. One thing that does get on my nerves though, Tony Bellew! What an annoying man and he looked off his t^ts last night!

There's the points thing but as someone said there was a punch in there last night, so maybe it would have stood depending on how the ref saw it. I was thinking about more than that though because it could still be used to give a fighter extra time to recover as you would with a low blow. This is potentially much more impactful than a low blow, bone to bone clashes are not good as tough as nails as some of these guys are. Maybe the right thing to do is to get the fighter checked over by the ringside doc if his corner wants it. I imagine most would every time unless they are sure it's not affected their fighter.

I suppose it would hard to implement in real time to protect the fighters like that. If you had an appeal system to have a knockdown reviewed there would inevitably be corners who just abuse the system to give their fighters extra time to recover regardless of whether they think there was a clash of heads or not. Even if it's done between the rounds though providing the fighter survives that long it's something, he can have his checks, smelling salts etc and a little extra time before coming out for the next round.

Seems like the clash of heads caused Parker to sustain a perforated ear drumand he lost his senses for a couple of rounds. That would make sense to me because he was in complete control and looking fast and alert in the first two rounds before looking lethargic and uninterested after that. On that basis alone you would think a rematch will be inevitable at some point and that might be one that Parker could win.

Come to think of it Froch and co did repeatedly point out he was looking away a lot too, maybe that was because of the ear.
