The Boxing thread

Anyone interested in a history of Mancunian boxers needs to read the recently released 100 years of Collyhurst and Moston boxing club by John Ludden, who also wrote the fabulous Gomez incidentally. It’s on the Empire website and is an amazing piece of work. I’m only plugging it as a massive fan of the local boxing scene and a therefore must read for anyone interested in it.

Fury looked awful on Saturday night to me, slow as fuck and got tagged by a few telegraphed shots too, if Wilder catches him it’s good night ladies..
My instinct is Frank Warren cashing him in early before he does something else to disgrace himself and the sport... No way if Fury ready or good enough to face Wilder, complete mismatch...!

People were saying the same thing when he boxed Klitschko and Fury nullified Klitschko and took the fight on the cards. Wilder is good to watch so rash but Fury can take a punch. IF Fury boxes Wilder he might end up getting the win on the cards again.

Good point mate but Fury came through a good few fights before Klitschko and was boxing well, this time round he’s fought 2 bums and looked awful doing so.. It’s too early for me but I will be the first to doff my cap to him if he pulls it off, just can’t see it...!

Makes a mockery of rankings. How the hell do you fight 2 bums then get a world title shot. I thought you had to be in the top ten of the organisations rankings. Whyte fought a WBC final eliminator 2 fights ago against Browne.

I see yesterday the WBSS announced the third weight division and its the cruiserweights again. Not sure about this would have been happy with a light middle or even light heavy before going back to the cruisers. Be interesting to see who enters that didnt last time

Im not Furys biggest fan dont care too much about the heavyweight division as it is poor. Saying all that his 2 comeback fights yeah they were 2 bums but the 1 thing that will benefit him the most out of those 2 fights is getting rid of the ring rust. Last fight he won on points and for me he didnt have the extra gear to go up and put away the lad. Thats 2 fights in nearly 3 years not active enough. Thats just what i think that division is bog standard no wonder AJ is dominating it.

To be fair to Tyson he did ask Ben if he should take the lad out and Davison told him not to. I think he had more than one gear left to go through.
