The Boxing thread

Far too many people base their opinions on "greatness" purely on how much the fighter has been marketed by who and where...

Nobody has heard of you? this must mean your shit then.

everybody knows you? wow your the best fighter ever.

This for me is one of the main reasons I went off boxing, I watch the odd fights but I don't follow it anymore.

You have never lost a fight? wow you must be the best fighter to ever grace the ring.

You have sky sports backing you with a decent promoter? you must be the best fighter ever.

I don't follow all that shit, loads of people disrespected Harrison tonight, people who have never even had a pro fight, the guy was shook, anyone who has fought will know this. Once your head goes it all goes.

No sport is perfect but this for me is why i dislike Boxing, too much tactic
That comes with the territory though, you're bound to get casual fans that don't have a clue about the sport acting like they know it all after watching one fight. The same thing will happen with MMA if it ever reaches the popularity of boxing. It's like on derby day when all the wannabe tactical geniuses come out of the woodwork...

Anyway I'm off for the night. Might try and get a couple of hours kip before the big one.

He beat Collazo in his first fight at Welterweight, which actually strengthens your argument because Collazo is a much better fighter than Urango.

Castillo definitely beat Mayweather in their first fight. Hatton was also the first to floor Castillo which is a big achievement considering Castillo's opposition.

He's got some good names on his record as Hatton. If anything, he became a much better fighter than his talent should have allowed him.

I don't think he disgraced himself against Mayweather, and i think he just had a horrible gameplan against Pacquiao. I don't think he could have beaten him, but performed quite stupidly.

Excited for later on mate?
I always get Collazo and Urango mixed up, he fought them back to back but I always get the order mixed up.

Can't wait for tonight pal, tbh anything to take my mind off the dross that was Haye/Audley. There's always a load of boxing know it-alls that come on here spouting shit after a British guy fights.

Looking forward to seeing Guillermo Rigondeaux on the undercard as well, he's only had a few proffesional fights so far but I can remember watching him in the olympics a few years ago, class boxer. He's in his 30's already though I think so he needs to get on with it if he's gonna make an impact.

I saw that Pac weighed in at 144. That makes me like Marg's chances a bit more tbh, he could have a big strength advantage coming into this. I'm still expecting a Pac UD, but it could be a lot closer than I originally expected.

They're showing all 4 24/7 episodes on Sky now btw, I'm not sure the 4th one's even aired yet.
Looking forward to seeing Rigondeaux fight. I'm guessing they're banking on Cordoba being a little shop worn, especially after the fight with Dunne. It's a big step up, but i've seen him in the ams and he's got great ability. He's a pretty heavy favourite, but it should be interesting.

I'm still not sure which Marg is going to turn up. If it's the one who beat Cotto, he's got a great chance because he was so relentless. Because i don't know how long he's been cheating, i genuinely don't know good he can be. I mean the Mosley fight gave us a glimpse, and he looked pretty bad, but that could be a style thing. I'm just looking forward to it to be honest. Watching the 24/7's now. What do you make of Pacquiao's camp? Reckon it's gone as badly as they're saying?

Everyone's entitled to an opinion but too many people for me are just brainwashed by the whole Murdoch hype machine involved with Boxing which spoils the sport.
Someone who has never had a fight might know more about say MMA than me, this doesn't bother me, but don't disrespect anyone who's actualy in there right there and then having a fight... like Harrison was.

At that moment in time with no keyboard infront of you, how will you react?
Completely different than how you set out!

Great fight. Margarito did exactly what I expected in that he just kept coming at Pac despite the beating he was taking, but it really is great to see in action. Don't think he can ever really be forgiven for the handwrap thing, but he gained a bit of credibility back tonight. Margarito had Pac on the ropes a couple of times, Pac is pretty poor defensively. I still think Floyd wins via a wide points verdict if they ever fight.

Also, the Jones/Karass fight on the undercard was brilliant. Not sure Jones should've got the decision though. Fell asleep and missed all the other undercard fights so hopefully Sky show them again.

The boxing last night was good. Started the night off great with the Groves fight. Wont say much about the Haye fight here. American bill from the fights I seen the Cuban lad v Cordoba was a very good fight a real pick em as to who would of won it. IF I was looking after him I would drop him down to Bamtamweight. At SuperBamtamweight he will be found out by Poonswat and Nikoshia and Lee the Japan fighter who beat Poonswat I think those fighters will find him out. I have seen Poon beat Dunne in Dublin his power is the best I have seen in that weight and to see him in the flesh he is a mini powerhouse.

As for the American lad who beat the Mexican on points it was a joke. The Mexican lad should of got the decision a real home town decision which pissed me off I had the Mexican by 2 rounds.

The main event Pacman his hand speed and movement was too much for Magarito try as he may to get close to Pacman and land on him he couldnt land as much to troble him. I thought the score cards were a bit wide I thought Magaritio got closer to Pacman in some rounds and IF I was scoring then Pacman by 7 rounds at the most some close rounds in the fight in the middle part.

Wouldn't go as far as calling it a joke, thought it was a really close fight as I had it even. The judge who had Jones by 4 rounds is having a laugh though.
