The Boxing thread

Good fight. Great start by Khan in the first round great body shot. Maidana done well after that first round. That KO won Khan the fight. Some of the rounds were very tight and could of went either way. That 10th round Khan was out on his feet and was lucky to survive it I have seen fighters be stopped for less than that. Did Maidana get points deducted aswell last night in one of the rounds? So Khan had 2 10-8 rounds. In some cases for the 10th round Maidana would of got 10-8 but it is seldom seen in boxing US. So the last few rounds it was all Maidana once Khan got hurt he was on his bike. I would call for a rematch again but I cant see Khan taking that risk again in his next fight. By the way I had Khan just winning it by a round. But for Maidana it was a case of the points deduction and the KO ruining his chances of getting the win. Will Golden Boy put it back on as they will have to wait for the Alexander v Bradley as I think they signed a 2 fight contract. Why not Khan v Maidana 2?

So Khan barely survives against a guy who can punch. Que surprise.

Keep him going up the ranks, somebody will humiliate him soon enough.

I dont think too many of Maidana punches landed on Khans chin. I think it was more of a temple shot that caused most of the damage in the 10th round now if that would of landed on his chin he would of went down. I heard Naz on BBC5live saying he doesnt want to see Khan fight too many fights like that anymore. I think a defence against a small puncher is in order for Khans next fight who that is only a matter of time and were the fight is. I would guess maybe a defence against Olusegun or even McCloskey or even John Murray would be a fight that could happen if his next fight is in the UK. If the fight is in the US maybe Zab Judah or my wildcard would be a fight with Joan Guzman if he is willing to move up a weight all those fights are all winable and are decent fights to tick him over. The only super fight I can see him fighting is Marquez at the moment but 2 hard fights in a row would be crazy.

Richard Schaefer has said he could fight Zab Judah over here next year. Not the hardest fight by any means, but Zab is still dangerous in the 1st half of a fight with his speed and power. I'd lean towards a Khan UD if he could avoid the early onslaught for the first 3 or 4 rounds.

What a fight. Poor performance from Khan though in my opinion. Made a lot of mistakes. He still looks vulnerable, but he has a lot of heart and his chin seems more durable at 140, although he was hurt several times.

Brilliant fight though. Can say what you want about Kahn, but he is very exciting to watch.

You're not giving Maidana credit, he is one tough hombre. That was a major notch in Khan's belt. If he had committed to the body he probably would have stopped him but he got a lot out of that fight.

I think it's the opposite. I re-watched the fight last night. He took quite a few flush hooks on the chin throughout the fight and dealt with them fine. He was hurt with a temple shot (as you pointed out) in the 10th, but this has always happened with Khan.

Against Limond it was a shot high up on the head which had him in trouble. Gomez knocked him over with a temple shot, and the first shot which did the damage in the Prescott fight was again a temple shot.

I don't think his chin is his weakest area. It's preventing looping hooks from landing high up on his head. It's difficult for him, because he is tall for a 140lb fighter, and he's an upright sort of fighter, so it's difficult for him to move underneath the looping shots.

He has a few more technical problems that haven't been fixed under Roach (so i'd assume they never will be). It's a bit daft for me to try and point them out, because i'm merely a fan and Roach is a world class trainer, but i will anyway...

Khan has quick feet, but his actual footwork is a little clumsy. His feet cross over when he moves, and this shouldn't really happen as it can lead you to being off balance, especially when moving backwards. His chin also leans over his lead foot at times. This again causes balance problems, and on Saturday night, he looked both off balance when launching some attacks, and at times, when he was moving backwards. He also still doesn't know where his elbows are. They're not quite tucked in enough to cover up effectively, and it leads to situations where he thinks he is covering up well, but in actual fact he is leaving fairly big gaps in his guard.

So, all in all, he can look breath-taking, but he can also look clumsy. He's still a work in progress, and considering he is just turned 24, he's actually in great shape to become a top 10p4p fighter. Daft as it sounds, he's probably only 1 or 2 good wins away from being somewhere close.

I think he needs a safer fight, probably in England around April time. I think Bradley and Alexander have a rematch clause in their fight, so they'll be unavailable anyway, probably until late 2011, so Khan should have a fight where can work on a few things, before getting in with either of those two.

I think he will be fine with either Judah or Guzman, and then i think he should be ready to take the winner of Bradley - Alexander.

I put this in the Khan tread.

"Well the 1 thing I would love to see now from Sky now is for them to show the Devon Alexander and Tim Bradley fight live on Sky Sports thats going ahead late January. It will kind of build up to a potential fight to see who is the best at 140 for once and for all. To be honest 140 has the fighters to do a Super 6. I honestly would love to see a Super 6 at that weight division. Khan , Maidana , Bradley , Alexander and 2 from Ortiz , Peterson , Kotelnik or even at a push McCloskey. All young fighters who would match up well against each other."

No doubt about it another Super 6 will be made again and in this division it has the fighters who are young enough to do it. I dont see why Golden Boy are trying to rush a fight with Money thats just daft and I honestly think Money may well call it a day the more I think of it.
