Roy Jones Jnr what a talent he was. Back in around 96 or 97 I think or it could of been a year earlier Steve Collins called him out and Roy was having none of it. It was the only fight left for Collins after beating Eubank and Benn. It got to the stage were Collins was coming to a point were Jones was avoiding him. It was a shame that Collins retire so young at 33 or 34 but it seemed that he fell out of love with boxing after not getting the Roy Jones fight. I think they were going to have Collins v Calzaghe but Collins decided to call it a day. A bit like Froch with Calzaghe when he was coming to the end the fight just never happend and if it would of it would of been 2 cracking fights to have seen when you see what both fighters went on to do.

Collins v Jones Jnr , Collins v Clazaghe and Clazaghe v Froch 3 fights that should of happend but never happend. Its always the same in boxing and still to this day the fights that should be made still dont get made this is the thing that pisses me off about boxing. Promotors just happy to avoid the big fights until the last moment if at all it will kill boxing off if it continues.

Calzaghe did a great job of dodging Jones Jr when he was good and then saw he was falling apart and got the fight. If that fight had been 6-7 years earlier Calzaghe would not have an 0 in his fight record

This somes up Joe Calzaghe as a fighter. He could fight any fight go to war. What a shame he had bad hands how many times he broke a hand after a fight in his early days meant that he missed out on more fights.

What opinion? That he dodged Jones Jr or that he would of been beat if he had met 1 of the best P4P's ever in his prime?

To be honest Jones Jnr dodged Collins at the time both fighters would of been at there peaks and it would of been a top class fight to see.

Thats true you have to wonder why, probably didnt fancy the fact that Collins liked going to war. Its a shame that during that generation we didnt get those fights and then we got 1 way too late at a different weight.

-- Mon May 23, 2011 9:53 pm --

At the end of the day when calzaghi & jones got it on calzaghi won to say jones was one of the best p4p in his prime i agree with but it doesnt mean he would of beat calzaghi who was also a special fighter so like i stated earlier its just opinions & nothing else .

To be honest with Roy Jones Jnr he mudded his legacy for me when he took PEDs. It always leaves that question mark over his other fights if he took any PEDs before them. Look at any of the British or Irish fighters if anybody can find any of the World Champions from this neck of the World caught using PEDs I would be shocked.

Just Charly then eh leight';)

Khan v Maidana 2 could well be on.

“According to WBA rules Khan has to face his mandatory challenger, who happens to be Marcos Maidana, by September 11, 2011 and he cannot fight anyone else 60 days before that date. Team Khan and Golden Boy Promotions have been notified already as we have too,” explained Maidana’s advisor Sebastian Contursi.

“We cannot force Khan to give Maidana his deserved 2010 Fight of the Year rematch. In fact, we think he will never dare to enter a ring with Maidana again. However, if Khan wants to keep his title and, specially, his honour intact, he will have to do it. Otherwise, he should resign the title and we’ll look for another opponent,” Contursi added.

So instead of the Bradley fight it might end up being Maidana again. Rumours going around that Roach and Golden Boy dont want anything to do with a rematch after the last fight and that they are now hoping to get Zab Judah instead of both Bradley and Maidana with Khan having to drop his belt.

I cant make my mind up about khan wether i rate him highly or not i know hes got loads of skill & has lightning fast hands but agree with a lot of people bout him being chinny & thats a big flaw in any fighter lets put it this way i wouldnt put money on him beating any top ranked fighter hes a big risk .

He has been managed very well in the start with Warren. He has skill and like yourself I dont think he will be able for the main men. If he moves up a weight he will struggle in my view. Its sad when he started out he avoided the fights with Thaxton and Murray and it was a shock that he got a World title fight in his first fight at Light Welterweight but as we all know money talks in boxing.

Agree on the thaxton & murray niether getting a chance to fight khan i dont think he has served a proper boxing apprentership like u said money talks even the prescott defeat wasnt supposed to happen he was hand picked but they came unstuck on that one so in his future fights i think hes gonna get found out big time .

Maidana is a top ranked fighter and possesses heavy hands.

That's bollocks from the WBA, the 1st fight was only 6 months ago.

Lads a bit of info for Saturday nights European title fight between Gavin Rees and Andy Murray. Murray is in fine form at the moment. Has got some decent sparring in and is ready for Rees who has yet to fight this year. Murray won on the Khan v McCloskey undercard and looking at the odds Murray at 15/8 is my bet for Saturday night or Murray by points the fight will be live on SKY as they show this fight. Along with Kessler fight and Carl Froch in the Super Six semi final this weekend is going to be a great night for boxing fans.

Carl has the power and boxing skills to go all the way. I expect Carl to KO this lad inside 3 to 5 rounds. Bring on a fight with the winner of Quigg and Booth the Jackal will take them all on and beat them up.
