The Boxing thread

Totally agree Canelo wants no part of GGG. I love Canelo, but lost so much respect for him with all this catchweight business "I'm not a middleweight" well vacate the title and drop a pound down to 154 then. If Canelo wants to fight at 155 thats fine but dont drag your opponent down from 160 too. Never mind the fact that once he rehydrates Canelo is as big as most super middles come fight night.
I find that biased though... what about we forget the belts(Do the fans care about the belts anyway in this instance or is the fight itself bigger? That's the only reason everyone wants Canelo to fight at 160 but that's not his weight we know this check his record)... without the belt argument what you really have is one fighter having an advantage over the other at whatever weight it happens at(at 155 Canelo's got an advantage at 160 GGG has an advantage both fighters know this, deep down fans of both fighters do too) and neither of them wants to give that up clearly. Floyd has done this(catch-weight) with many fighters when you've cleaned out the best in your weight class you have to fight heavier opponents than yourself because there's no big fights left without doing that, that's where Canelo's at right now(again very impressive achievement in itself for his age). So some will see it as merely a tactic of draining an opponents strength making weight but what about the flip side of that coin? You're either going to give a weight advantage away against already heavy hitters who've been comfortable at that weight for most of their career which is a huge advantage for them or you're going to put weight on yourself which slows some fighters down and makes them less effective(in fact I'd say it catches up with most fighters eventually when they try and go too far with it).

My problem with it is Canelo's taking all the stick where GGG's getting away with it for me, if this wasn't the case GGG would back himself to do it at 155 which he clearly doesn't as he said he would never do that(you'd have said that's fear if it was Canelo). I mean one of the accusations for Canelo haters which you alluded to is he put weight on after the weigh-in to give himself an advantage(how much can you really put on in such a short time? I'd have thought that would have a negative effect)... why doesn't GGG just do that, why don't all his opponents do that? Or would that become an excuse for them loosing? "Came in bloated at fight time". It feels like people are picking him as the next Floyd Mayweather(how many people was he supposedly ducking too over the years?) by the way people talk about him(unfair really Canelo's nothing like that ass) and perhaps that's partly because of how he's been handled by Golden Boy Promotions, I just don't see it that way myself personally, I do think he should ditch them but that's never going to happen.

Whatever anyway, the fight will be made and it should make GGG a pretty penny, he wants a massive payday just as much make no mistake and to be fair he deserves one as much as any when it does happen whether he wins or loses, I still see a Canelo win though.

good friends terry and Crolla but talking to turbo he would if the price was right and it the Etihad

Both great lads and that would be a wonderful night, fancy Ant to win by late stoppage or points tomorrow think Barrosso is very dangerous but imo Mitchell had been through to many wars when he fought him.

Hope Ant wins and the big Manchester battle is made.

Don't think it would fill the etihad. If I am honest. Seems a sound lad Flanagan but not built a following yet.

Clearly Alvarez is not a 160 fighter, but if he wants to keep his in effect 3 titles he needs to fight at 160 sooner or later or it is just a farce. It is only a 6 lb division, it is hardly Leonard v Lalonde demanding a mid point to a 15 lb division which was warranted.

Anyway Khan has a realistic chance of winning, even if just 22%.

More likely at the arena? Bit of a quigg v frampton style build up playing on the City united angle. And a fight thats still easy to make if crolla loses tmw.

Both lads conduct themselves well. Terry to win if he settles better than he did vs Derry

This fight could ruin Khan. Canelo will drop him heavily and eventually stop him. People seem to be overlooking Canelo's skills - he is young slick and quick (apart from his feet).

And the apparent back-up plan for Khan to drop back down after a brave defeat is flawed. Even at 29, after bulking up Khan will struggle to shed the new weight and his main attribute - speed - will have been compromised.

Khan has proved he has bollocks but i think greed has blinded his thinking for this one

Leonard v Lalonde now that was a good KO

its been very hard of terry to build up a fan base and really not a loving media lad yes does a lot of stuff for locals schools and others but the media have not picked up on it. maybe its being on boxnation but sadly its down to not being on sky and there world wide channels. the lad is a great fighter and a heart of gold winning the world title 3 times so must be good fighter. a big year for terry coming up and if all goes well then the media will be all over him
