The Boxing thread

Wasn't he arrested for trying to sell weed? Hardly a coke or heroin dealer was he?

Drugs are drugs - should have been hung. In all seriousness I would support fury against him as Joshua seems very cock sure of himself.

Just watched 'the gloves are off' with AJ and that fat little weasel Dillian Whyte. I can't wait for Joshua to destroy this fucking fraud, horrible ****!
Whyte was completely backed into a corner due to some serious Johnny Nelson bias. The sky love-in for AJ is getting embarrassing.

On another note - Fury just went into the lions den to take the titles. I find it hugely disrespectful that people would back a completely unproven AJ to knock him out in a couple of rounds. This is a guy who has literally not had his chin tested once.

AJ has done nothing David Price didn't do early doors. But I suppose everyone said Price would spark Fury out too.

Yeah i don't think you can make an effective judgement on Joshua until he fights someone that can take a dig and give one back. Which is probably going to be one of the big eastern Europeans.

Agree with the gloves is off too the bias was major towards Joshua, Whyte couldn't get his words out but i think he was basically trying to say what we see of Joshua on TV isn't truly him and he's been very well trained by Matchroom's media group.

I wouldn't be surprised if Joshua puts his foot in it at some point down the line or is riled up by an opponent at some point in his career. Whyte might well acheive it at the weigh in.

I like both fighters to be honest, but I feel really sorry for Dillian, naturally it fits the story that hes the villain so sky will paint him as the big bad wolf but he actually seems an alright fella.

I think Joshua looks a great prospect but I dont really understand how people can tell hes going to be the greatest heavyweight since Ali when he hasn't even fought anyone who dared to throw a punch at him. Also take nothing away from the achievement but he got very lucky with his Olympic gold. The Johnson fight was a start, and hopefully now we will see him in with some decent level fighters so we can gauge a realistic idea of where hes at.

This up coming AJ fight is his first real test. I like how Matchroom are handling him. I think if they have a 5 fight plan for AJ is the best plan. White is 1 . 2 fight the European Champion Erkan Teper , 3 a defence against Christian Hammer , 4 Povetkin and 5 a World Title fight. He could well be fighting for a World title in 2 years time. I think he has the skills but depending on if he can take a shot on his chin.

The gloves are off is what it is. I dont mind it if the fighters are interesting and can talk its worth it. I liked the Groves and Froch 1. I also liked Klitschko / Fury and last nights 1. I also think the next 1 will be Quigg v Frampton now I wonder how that will go. The Matchroom bias will always be there on the show for the majority. I dont mind Johnny Nelson I like the format but Sky will promote the fighters to the moon and back and will make you think there the greatest fighter ever to lace them up.

I hope Joshua gets knocked clean out , This sky love in for a convicted drug dealer is nauseating

Do you not feel he deserves a lot of credit for changing his life? same with Lee Selby. Cannabis is a harmless drug. I've got in to arguements with a shower of twats when drinking but when I'm stoned I discuss Pulp Fiction and eat too many Jaffa Cakes.

Well said.

Derry Mathews seems very confident of stopping Flanagan in February talking all kinds of nonsense about training in the sun and eating paella or something. I have no idea who has been blowing smoke up his pipe but he is getting sparked by Terry.

Derry is terrible fighter not World Class nowhere near the level he is fighting. Flanagan will have a easy defence. Hes got beaten 9 times 7 of those times by ko how the fuck he is getting a title fight is beyond me. I know his last loss against Stephen Ormond he was totally outclassed and Ormond is a good fighter but Terry is the fighter in this division by far. Terry could well unify the division. He beats everyone in the UK easy.

If boxing helped turn him away from that path then fair play. Your inability to give him a second chance concerns me.

Groves mentioned last week that he's looking to return in mid January, my guess against a top 10 ranked opponent. I'm led to believe he's teamed up with Rob McCracken (Froch's old trainer), sensible move in my opinion, he will take him back to basics and instill some confidence in him again.

I see maybe 2 or 3 fights bedding in, look good in them and it could well be a showdown with Smith or DeGale this time next year. Wish the bloke all the success in the World, felt he was robbed in the first Froch fight.

Wish him the best of luck too, and I do hope he can turn it around. I just think he could turn out to be the nearly man who just happened to not quite take his chances when he could've in a weight division that's packed with great talent. It can't be easy when you look at the competition at home alone, never mind rest of the world.

Yeah think Matthews will be in for a shock when Flanagan gets a hold of him, would love to see a unification match against Crolla, would fancy Flanagan in that as well.

Flanagan will destroy Matthews easily. Personally love Turbo regardless of the fact he's a blue. He just looks like a complete lad and comes across really well in interviews. Really modest and there's something about him too.

With Groves, I think he got his gameplan wrong in the first Froch fight. He was ahead on points so he should've ridden it out as opposed to going for the kill. Things would've turned out differently. He went from that huge Wembley sell out and Vegas to becoming a recluse. He deleted his Twitter etc.

Joshua KO Whyte
Eubank KO Sullivan
Mitchell PTS Barroso
Bellew PTS Masternak
Campbell KO Mendy
Warrington PTS Sanchez

I was tempted to go with Masternak via KO as I don’t think Bellew is world level at any weight, he’s looked a bit disappointing up at CW, and Masternak is a step up from recent opponents.

Agreed, matter of time before Bellew gets found out again.

I fancy one of the above four winners to lose. Perhaps Mitchell.

I fancy Mitchell to beat Crolla, so I think he'll put it all out there this weekend to ensure he gets that fight.
Bellew, as previously stated, is the one who I think could well get KO'd. Just leant towards a narrow points win.
Campbell is a class act IMO so can't see him struggling whatsoever.
I know little about Sanchez, though a fight with Selby (which he will comfortably lose anyway) will never happen if Warrington doesn't win this.
