The Boxing thread

I too will be surprised to see John Murray again, certainly in any meaningful way anyway, think he's done now, which is a shame, watched him from an early age and he was a very skillful and clever fighter, but somewhere along the line 'someone' convinced him he was a 'warrior', which he wasn't, and he's paying the price for that now.

Mayweather v Alvarez, can't see anything other than a routine points win for Floyd.

Remember when the boxing was free to air?
I watched this on world of sport.

Ah, those were the days eh mate, everything about Duran was set up for Hearns to look sensational in that fight, and he didn't disappoint, one of my favourite knockouts and fights ever, just as much because it was against another genuine top top level 'hall-of-famerr'.

Well good news for Sky Sports subs. This weekend they are showing the Chad Dawson fight also on the undercard or co main eventing is. Gamboa V Perez in a lightweight fight on the card a really good card.

Also at the end of the month they are showing Mat Macklin v Golovkin which will be a great fight to see. Macklin is up against a right banger here.

I fear Macklin's becoming a bit of a punchbag. I don't blame him for taking the paydays, especially as his Irish roots mean he's a good ticket seller in the US, and he was arguably unlucky against Sturm (though i thought Sturm won, tbh), but i just don't see him beating any of the top guys in big American fights. The sooner they get this triangular tournament going domestically the better. Him, Murray and Barker are all quite evenly matched, and any of them could beat the other two on any given day.

I had Macklin winning the Sturm fight, but it was so close that I see why they went with home advantage.

I had Macklin winning too. Sturm against Macklin and Murray lost both fights in my opinion but held onto his title both times.

Pardoe I would add into the mix Andy Lee too all 4 could beat 1 and other. Lee is now with Adam Booth so it could of worked. I heard that Lee was ready to fight Barker until Barker got the World title fight. Out of all 4 it would be hard to rank them as it changes all the time for me. Barker is injury prone. Murray isnt fighting regular enough since Hatton has no tv deal while Lee and Macklin are ticking over in the US with fights so its so hard to choose which out of the 4 is the best. Its a shame no one has won a world title as they could well do a Super 4 and have a fight in Ireland say Lee v Macklin in the o2 it would sell out. Barker v Murray somewhere in London or Manchester. The winners face each other and the losers face each other to rank who is the best out of the 4. It could be done within 3 nights of boxing.

Quigg's joined matchroom and is fighting end of this month on the rees crolla card.

Great move. He lives the life and it's been painful to see a kid in his prime sidelined for virtually the whole year.

I wonder IF Eddie Hearn will change his views on Frampton and Quigg. For years he was saying how good Frampton is and would beat Quigg. So now he is promoting Quigg he will have to say those words about Quigg and say how better he is than Frampton. Honestly think Quigg will do well under the Hearns. They could well get him a World title shot. Gutted that Frampton was swayed by McGugian to move to Warren as he would of been fighting for a World title by the end of the year if he stayed with Matchroom. I know all of Matchroom rate Frampton highly and were sad to see him go but hope to work with him again just Barry being greedy made it not workable.
I can see Quigg v Kiko being made in 2 fights time to see if he can handle a banger. Then see what happens next and its anyones call. We might even see a Frampton v Quigg down the line. Frampton has always wanted it but Quiggs management and trainer doesnt at all.
