It's too fragmented now and has been for years. The only dominant force seems to be mayweather.
Hardly anyone is a household name, yet they are some sort of world champion.
Years ago, we had McGuigan, Fenech and Nelson holding a version of the featherweight title. All of them were worthy champions.
Now some journeyman with 6 or 7 defeats can get a title fight.
Johnny Nelson the Sky pundit was beaten 12 times before he went on to win his World Championship. He held the Wbo title for i think 6 or 7 years before retiring. Its a shame during that time he never got a big unification fight which i find crazy if your a champion that long you should be fighting other champions too. So it has happened in the years gone back too. I think there is too much bullshit for fighters to keep there 0. Someones 0 has to go fights. You can see from the past that a lot of fighters has got beaten and then showed the heart and desire to go out and win themselves a World title thats something you cant knock.
Current British champions who have lost there 0s fighting.
Tony Bellew KOd badly by Adonis Stevenson
James DeGale beaten on points by George Groves.
Ricky Burns beaten 5 times by Alex Arthur , Terenece Crawford and Figuero Jnr to name 3 fighters.
Anthony Crolla beaten 4 times beaten by Gary Sykes twice and Derry Mathtews.
Lee SELBY beaten by Samir Mouneimne
Jamie McDonnell beaten twice by Lee Haskins and Chris Edwards on points.
Lee Haskins KO'd 3 times by Jamoye , Ian Nappa and Munyai
So there is 7 British World champions who all tasted defeat and went on to win World titles. I think thats some going and to be honest some brilliant promoting by the promotors in getting them the chances to go on and live there dream of being a World Champion. I say the longer it continues as there are some fighters who have some good fights lined up coming up soon too.
