It’s exactly like Brexit, it’s the idea of it but does it really make life better? Probably not noI dont seen us ever becoming a republic.. Maybe we will, though I dont see the benefit, sort of like Brexit, an existential thing?

Watching this today I was thinking there are certain institutions that logically don't make much sense like the monarchy or the church. However when you look at the pageantry the buildings etc it's hard not to be mightily impressed. The monarchy is going nowhere fast, certain people might have been licking their lips but this has shown that their excitement is premature and they will have to wait a considerable time for their money shot.
The church building is magnificent , but there message is a complete turn off for me.Watching this today I was thinking there are certain institutions that logically don't make much sense like the monarchy or the church. How we got here may be full of wrong doings but it's our culture and I wouldn't want to tear it down.
If this country was new and built from scratch it would look like Milton fucking Keynes. Has it all gone on a bit long? Possibly for some but I'm glad we do things this way.
God save the queen and people can keep their notion of a Republic thank you very much.
We ain't yanks yet thank god.
Yeah, I’ve no doubt it’s an amazing service and nothing short of what The Queen deserves. She was a special lady and very good for the U.K. and it’s relationships with other countries. It’s live on Dutch, Belgian, and even German television. Beautiful service and glorious setting.
Nobody is having a dig at the Queen. They're having a dig at monarchy.I’m fully in agreement that anybody using today to have a dig at the queen is on pretty fucking shaky ground and are likely to be a bit of a ****.
France thriving RepublicNobody is having a dig at the Queen. They're having a dig at monarchy.
The Queen could have been the nicest person to ever walk the Earth (that's something that can never be fully qualified because people only ever saw a side of her that was carefully manufactured), but the institution she represented is a distasteful relic of a bygone era. People talk of modernisation but they haven't modernised in any way. They still take without paying for a thing, and they're still above the law; law that conveniently enough they have full remit to change. You can love pomp and tradition without being blind to those facts.
I visited Versailles two years back and it's the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. It still attracts millions of visitors without the need for France, as a thriving republic, to house a family of scroungers there to represent it.
Fun bit of trivia; the Roman *Republic* is still, to this day, considered the pinnacle of democracy. The blueprint, if you will. Roman civilisation only began to disintegrate with the Roman Empire; and the mandate of hereditary rule.
Not sure I follow?France thriving Republic
You're trying too hard there fella:-)
How have they been thriving say opposed to us because they are a Republic? Not sure I follow?
