It's like keeping horse buses on the grounds they're 'traditional'.
At one time, it was believed that the King was appointed by God and was his representative on earth. As such, his rule was justified. (Not that this stopped the 'nobility' from deposing and murdering certain kings they took a dislike to.)
No fucker believes that now, not even the people who still believe in God. To quote John Milton (more or less) the King is like a member of the family who is appointed to buy meat. No more, no less. It's a job. There's nothing sacred about it, and the very idea of hereditary power in the 21st Century is an abomination.
