The British Monarchy

I would rather you called out the drip drip of poison from this nations media into the collective ear than having a go at royalty.
This happens every 70 years or so. The Mail, BBC and co do it every fucking day.
We’ll be on our next coronation within 15 years and another one in 35-40.

Minute. I was trying to break the disbelievers in gently.

I'm in Aberdeen this weekend and I will line the procession route to pay respect to the Queen. Born to a lifetime of unimaginable privilege and wealth but a tireless servant of our country.

Many young men from the granite city and the surrounding towns and villages fought in the distinguished Highland regiments fo Queen and country. It's only right that the procession should pass through here, going past Perth, Dundee to Edinburgh.

But if you're not from the east coast of Scotland or don't live within commuting distance of one of the very many palaces, if you want to say goodbye in person, you'll be hard pressed.

Watching thos fucking proclamations this morning - and wasting a load of data doing so - the chaps in fake admirals hats came across as utterly cringe worthy. You'd had that ceremony proclaiming him king, the taking of announcements to the 4 capitals of the UK?? Archaic ritual for the sake of it. Wonder when the coronation actually will be? I think we'll be doing exceptionally well to have it within 6 months, which is ludicrous.

We can venerate the Queen or King or whoever but has the sovereign ever funded anything from their own pocket? 1992 they didn't want to pay for repairing Windsor Castle and they certainly didn't want to start paying tax!

We do need to fundamentally look at the monarchy but in conjunction with a radical overhaul of parliament, proportional representation and an elected second chamber. The Lords can act as a valuable counter to the more lunatic aims of government. But there's a lot of graft at Westminster place needs major detoxification.

Anyway you might have been pissed the spuds c game was cancelled, here they were pretty upset about the shinty!

I am a Republican, yet I found myself moved by the last days events, I was fond of our Queen and found them fascinating and started to question whether my Republican beliefs were sound. Today's pageantry is part of what makes us a great country and I am conflicted as to is that possible if were to become a Republic.

Then I asked myself why people with bugles carrying out ancient rituals is in keeping with a modern democracy, King Charles "approved" legal documents that in a democracy should surely be decided by the people.

These are questions I have never had to consider and with the passing of a Queen who was loved and revered by so many it does bring one's beliefs into question.

As an avowed Republican, I will say God Bless you Queen Eliabeth, you did your people, the nation and the Commonwealth proud, you will always have my respect and affection.

Now though we move on and whilst I wish our new King Charles well and do not doubt for one minute his promises to be a King who is a dutiful as his mother, I do hope he finds a way to distance the monarchy from the constitution. I have no problem with us having a Royal family, but they should not be part of our constitutional settlement,

Constitutional Monarchy is coming to an end, as a nation we have to grow up, rid ourselves of deference and forelock tugging and become a nation happy in its own skin.

At this moment in our nation's history, even as an avowed Republican, I have to say for now,

God Save The King.

Well it was only 2 weeks ago she launched into her latest attack on the Royals.
She may well be right, of course, but you'd think she'd just keep a low profile.
Isn't it the case that now Charles is King her sprogs can have Prince and Princess titles and HRH ?
Thereby entitling them to state funded security/protection forever.

Whereas, in reality, he’s a stressed, tired old man who’s probably gone OTT in fussing about an inkwell being out of place.

He could have handled it better, but probably shouldn’t be sent to the tower just yet.
He had lost his mother 36 hours earlier.

Most people in that situation will have privacy and space to process what’s just happened to them, perhaps surrounded by a few friends or family. He, however, has had to fly back to London the day after her death, meet people outside Buckingham Palace, speak to the Prime Minister - which can hardly have been a pleasurable experience - film a broadcast to the nation, and doubtless had many other meetings with staff, and calls with other Prime Ministers in Australia, NZ and so on.

After perhaps 3-4 hours sleep, he then had to go through what looked like a fairly tedious ceremony the following morning, again in front of a room of people he’d probably rather prefer weren’t there. In those circumstances, can anybody on here really say that they wouldn’t - perhaps for a second or two - react to something in a way that’s slightly out of character, or make a very moderate fuss out of something that wouldn’t usually rile you?

I think that any rational person, with an ounce of empathy, would cut him a bit of slack. The children on Twitter, however, are incapable of doing that, while a number of people on here rush to embarrass themselves by declaring him a c**t. It really is incredible how some people behave.

Took some US relatives to Stratford and the wife ignored Shakespeare’s house and took a photo of a Christmas shop across the road. The same person spent two days in Beatrix Potter’s Lake District looking for a Paddington Bear to take home to her grand child. She also asked her husband why he was called Paddington.

Cultural morons.
When they saw Anne Hathaway's cottage did they think it was this one ?

Which posters do you regard in here as half-wits ?
I'm guessing you won't answer that.

It's 100% clear how he is treating that member of staff.
I don’t have to identify the various posters, as they do a very good job of that themselves, not least with the language they use and the disturbed nature of their posts.

He’s also been trained for 60 years straight about what will happen when that time comes.

His whole raison d’être begins for him at 73. 6 years after he should have retired from a job he never had.

Some people will cut him the slack you crave and others won’t. That’s life, mate. It doesn’t make you right and them wrong or vice versa.

People can relate to the loss of a parent, no doubt, but most cannot relate to what he has experienced in life and how he’s been trained for this moment.

Things like the inkwell incident show more true colours than any stiff upper lip stuff he’s managed. That’s how the royal family have been trained to react.

When she became queen, I seem to recall that the Royal Family was just Elizabeth + DoE, sister Margaret and the Queen Mother. The only bit of regular gossip was with the younger sibling. Over the years, with kids, grandkids, great grandkids, marriages and divorces, the "Firm" has expanded into several dozen dukes & duchesses, princes & princesses, counts & countesses etc. Not all on tax payers money but, as far as I know, none of them struggling to pay their energy bills.

That is correct. They were not born a Prince / Princess but as of Thursday they were given such a title.
Not sure what that entitles them living overseas / Harry and Megan having 'resigned' from The Firm though.....

If people don’t like him, then that’s fine. I would argue that grief is a very powerful and ultimately individual emotion, but you would counter that he’s had a lifetime to prepare for this moment, and we could have a civil argument over the matter.

But referring to him as a c**t a day after he lost his mother, as so many on here have, is frankly embarrassing and highly disrespectful to anybody, whoever they are.
