You need to pull your arse out of the past and judge the monarchy now. Parliament used to shit on the common man, other nations and engage in bloodthirsty land grabs. The people in the monarchy and parliament have changed over the centuries in line with modern views.
It’s a life of privilege in a monetary sense but many privileges you and I enjoy they aren’t afforded. They’re not free to live a normal life, you have to watch absolutely everything you say and do, cannot go out about your day without being filmed and followed by thousands. Even Harry said he feels sorry for senior Royals as it’s like being trapped in that life.
I’d take the odd worry about bills and my terrace house over Buckingham Palace, to live a free life where I can go out and enjoy myself whilst being left alone.
And it’s not just cutting ribbons, she’s overseen the Commonwealth, been the most traveled monarch in history, got her arse out there acting as an ambassador, met and hosted leaders from all over the world, questioned Prime Ministers and spoken to the public.
She was working two days before she died for fuck sake.
You need to look at what other leaders have said about her, your opinion more informed than Obama’s for example? Or Macron?
Even the SNP, who want to leave the UK love her and what’s she’s done.
You might hate the fact it’s inherited but there is a benefit to that, it means a single family are giving their lives to be dedicated to these roles and with that you get much more dedication and consistency.
You talk about land grabs and bloodthirst from the past but every leader in every country and every people did that, it’s not a symptom of the monarchy necessarily, it was a symptom of human aggression and greed which has been shown in many other systems.
Putin is doing it now and he’s not a monarch, if he was and there was a democratic elected parliament, they’d have probably stopped him.
I’ve seen loads of posts and comments from Africa sending condolences. Of course there are hateful and bitter ignorant people who won’t and will say disgusting things but they are best off ignored, the majority of people understand what a great person she was.
I don't need to pull myself out of anywhere mate, my feet are firmly planted here in the 21st Century. Have a look at the pantomimic shite that's being broadcast on TV at the moment and then ask yourself who is really the one stuck in the past.
Few things, you say they are bound to a life of servitude and public debt to us, and that they lead such a torturous woe-is-me existence. Do the names Edward VIII and Prince Harry mean anything to you? I don't blame Harry for getting out of dodge because his family are an abomination, but the reality is he fucked off into the sunset with the privileges and wealth paid for by us hanging from his coattail.
You talk of world leaders eulogising over her, what do you expect them to say? Its a hearty blend of virtue signalling and diplomacy. The same kind of diplomacy that sees politicians and authority figures shielded from any real responsibility or account.
One of the first things we're taught as kids is to work hard at school and the pay off will be financial reward and a happier life. Literally the first real life lesson any child gets. A monarchical system spits in the face of all that. It completely contravenes the notion of fairness, of equality, of every man starting at the same start line.
They don't pay for a fucking thing. We pay for it all with our taxes. I don't begrudge paying for hospitals and doctors, or policing, teaching and other tangibly worthwhile facets of society. I do begrudge funding a luxurious lifestyle for a set of total strangers. And anyone that doesn't should question why, and then proceed with the lobotomy.
And all of this is before elucidating on the contemptible family members themselves. How's Prince Andrew doing nowadays? Is his brother going to protect him further now he's "king"?
Who the fuck do these people think they are? Who are they to say they are better than us? That their blood is pedigree and worthy and that ours isn't? There is only one Royal Family in my life, and that's my own.
If you can tell me why a monarchy is anything other than an aberration of modern values and ideals, without spouting tired cliched bullshit like "continuity" or "stabilising figure" or "glue that holds us together", if you can do that, then to borrow toffy parlance, I will doff my cap to you Sir and admit monarchy is a good thing.
Otherwise, I'll maintain the principle of a sane man and say that the Royal Family are a stain on our society and the whole lot should be burned to the ground.
