The British Monarchy

On a Monday? Yeah.

Its probably more than Manchester Cathedral gets in a week.

It's that Windsor effect that everyone is talking about. This is a random question, does your missus like watching the Vicar Of Dibley?

I am asking because it's my wifes favourite program ;)

You are making an argument for a republic, sectarianism is a natural progression when one religion deviates from another one, they have it in Islam and Judaism too.

Again let me state that speaking from a CofE perspective (Well my upbringing) I believe all religion to be pants, however that doesn't mean that I believe that all people who follow religions are intrinsically bad and that includes the monarchy.
I’m not making an argument for a republic. We have one, thank you very much.
Sectarianism in any other religion is irrelevant. The argument is the removal of religion from politics.

I come from the other side of the local fence. I was brought up Catholic and can confirm from this side that it is equally a load of crap. Religion is probably the biggest cause of division in the world or perhaps those that use it for those purposes are the biggest cause.

However, we’re not talking about worldwide. We are talking about closer to home.

We had 70+ years of Catholicsism enshrined in our written constitution in one way or another but we have systematically removed it and and it doesn’t exist anymore and we have signed up to the GFA regarding relationships with yourselves and those that live in the North of Ireland.

I would have loved to see your sectarian constitution altered in good faith but that is not going to happen.

But with the whole dual citizenship ideal we have proffered upon the people of Northern Ireland, I don’t see it as quite fair that those that identify as nationalist can’t take their seat in Westminster unless they sign up to your sectarian constitution.

We see things differently over here. I know that’s not fully understood., why.

Every religion is accommodated in Parliament not just CofE, to which I may add in my experience isn't considered to be a serious religion by the millions that had it bestowed on them by other people.

I can see that you are arguing in good faith but we wont solve this on a message board, religion is ugly for the most part and sets people against each other.

I’m 81, I remember the last King, vaguely, I remember all the neighbours coming round to watch the Coronation on our small TV. I saw very little of the Coronation as I was sent to find a shop that was open because we ran out of milk and biscuits for the neighbours!!

I’ve kept quiet mostly on the threads about the Royal Family but only because, although I admired and respected the Queen and Princess Anne I was/am rather indifferent to the rest of them.

However I read this today:
“We may hold different points of view but it is in times of stress and difficulty that we most need to remember that we have much more in common than we have dividing us.” A quote from Lizzie herself. (Not disrespectful just what we always affectionately referred to her at home) :-)

I have mostly found that people are a mixture of good and bad. After all if we were all perfect we would have nothing to strive for. :-) :-)
Peace and calm to you all.

Basically I’m saying I am voting indifferent I guess?! :-)
