Fuck the pomp and ceremony tbf.It makes pomp and ceremony more difficult to pull off though!

Just seems to be disrupting many people, Sunday would've been very practical imo and cost the country a few billion less.I think they would have held it on the Saturday had she died on the Wednesday, but there is the 10 day mourning protocol to observe.
Funerals very rarely happen on Sundays in the U.K.
They probably wanted to make her funeral day a bank holiday for posterity too.
It’s probably all we’ve got left globally…Fuck the pomp and ceremony tbf.
Nah, lots more, ye just need to realise it.It’s probably all we’ve got left globally…
I think it‘s probably a rod used by republicans to poke at royalists.Just seems to be disrupting many people, Sunday would've been very practical imo and cost the country a few billion less.
I’ll ask you to list them, just so you have to.Nah, lots more, ye just need to realise it.
You've a shit load of allies and therefore a shit load of soft power. You're a G7. You're one of the biggest military powers on the earth. You've got shitloads of goodwill for backing Ukraine. Will I keep going?I’ll ask you to list them, just so you have to.
:-)
Only if you want to.You've a shit load of allies and therefore a shit load of soft power. You're a G7. You're one of the biggest military powers on the earth. You've got shitloads of goodwill for backing Ukraine. Will I keep going?
Ahh lol. Your morale is down because we won the brexit debate (EU and US) but you're one of the most influential countries on the fucking planet.Only if you want to.
We have credit in the bank, is what you’re saying.
How long it will last is up for debate.
100% true.Ahh lol. Your morale is down because we won the brexit debate (EU and US) but you're one of the most influential countries on the fucking planet.
Russia have had a dickhead for 22 years, the USA have had several. Civil service run countries not heads of state.100% true.
How long does that last if we keep sending May, Johnson, Truss et al?
They’re truly independent though. We aren’t.Russia have had a dickhead for 22 years, the USA have had several. Civil service run countries not heads of state.
You are, you just haven't clocked it yet. We did. We're a Republic, we're all royalty. They’re truly independent though. We aren’t.
Lend us a grand to heat my home, mister.
I never suggested you remove the monarchy. Where are you getting that from.
I see it as your choice, nothing to do with anyone outside Britain.
Any discussion I’ve had about the monarchy in here has revolved around the separation of state and religion.
It is an issue in your kingdom whether you think so or not.
I’m sure you could keep the monarchy and revise your constitution at the same time.
At the end of the day it’s for Britain to decide.
You are correct however that I would not be in favour of having a monarchy here. We are still living with the consequences of trying to separate ourselves from it though.
It is not for Britain to decide though is it?
It is for Britain to moan about, for no real reason, or to enjoy, also for no real reason. Or to feel completely indifferent about.
It isn't a real question, there isn't a decision to be made, nobody is even hinting at asking it. Not even sure how that would come about, possibly only as a consequence of far more significant constitutional changes. Which have been rejected so far.
I find this thread interesting, it is ultimarely just personal opinions on something, treated a bit like it is an actual choice to make.
If the majority of the country wanted rid of the monarchy- then change would be possible
But they don’t
Given how left wing this forum generally is i reckon you could say the YES vote for the general public would be 60+%
Yeah of course. I get that. Still think the general public vote would be more Yes than on here.
Opinion gained from when we have gen elections, on here polls would have a labour landslide. Just reflects the left leanings
Ps. Wasnt saying it was good or bad either way
Joking aside, it does feel like this whole thing has been handled pretty badly, by business in particular. The Center Parcs fiasco is obviously the best/worst example, but numerous companies have been falling over themselves to show their subservience in a weird mawkish way. Ironically, it could ultimately be more damaging to the monarchy than they imagine. Feels like the public are starting to see the absurdity of it all.
I actually think each new king will take it upon themselves to reform the monarchy. Particularly william. I think him much more than charles has his finger on the pulseI'm not sure it would be that easy. Or would even necessarily get anywhere. There are lots of things the majority of the country doesn't want, but still happen.
But I'm not actually saying it is ' impossible', obviously. Just that it isn't a choice to make, as presented in that point. Not in a 'we have no choice' type of way in the slightest, more that it isn't a thing that is in motion in any way.
Agree that the majority are happy with the monarchy, and I have to admit this thread and the Queen's death one have surprised me with the number of opinions against it.
