The Conservative Party

Everyone having broadband would be very helpfull if we ever had a nation crisis where people are stuck at home and schools and other resources are closed.

Let's hope that never happens.

Plus the original proposal was part nationalisation, much like the german model of public/private co-operation

In a post a couple of pages back I said I thought the government should have ensured every school kid had access to the internet and something to learn on during this crisis.

There is nothing wrong with “free” internet but it seems a fairly random thing to want to give and have state control (aka nationalise) of. The bit they wanted was the internet. They didn’t want the voice side.

Well we don't actually know that as it never came to pass.

That is just your take on it

That’s a fair enough comment, the stated aim was broadband for all parts of the country (nothing wrong with that) - and the best way for former communications magnet and tycoon Corbyn was to bring all that know how to Openreach - rather than just give them the money to do it.

But I prefer to have my ideas that Comrade Corbyn wanted to control the internet to prevent any criticism of “The Party” as it would have been known under his one party nation - I do this because it meets my preconceived ideas that he is basically a communist. All without hard evidence of course but it’s the same logic as being often applied to the tories (greedy, corrupt, heartless)

All of the infrastructure (apart from Virgin IIRC) is owned by Openreach ... so it doesn't matter who you buy your access from its Open Reach who have to maintain and do the repairs. Corbyn proposal was to bring that element into public ownership and to push for broadband for all (even the rural areas) . As Ive pointed out in the past even the Tories own recommendations were that it should be be brought under the one supplier as the cost of implementing high speed broad for the whole of the UK worked out £12 billion cheaper .... of course Conservative ideology wouldn't allow that. Now they have reneged on yet another manifesto promise on delivering super fast broadband for all by 2025.

But the pandemic has shown that broadband for all is a necessity ... and would solve many issues by allowing people to work or learn from home.

Whilst you may label Corbyn as a Communist (I dont and sure that many others would agree with me) I would gently remind you that everything in life that benefits you and yours is as a result of Socialist policies.

Is there any bats left in your belfry?

Broadband for all is a necessity, I don’t think the pandemic has necessarily shown it is more so thou but certainly brought it to the fore.

I was calling Corbyn a communist for effect. More to highlight our own, including mine, interpretation of policy based on our own preconceived notions rather than look at the policy in isolation. Now whilst I don’t think Corbyn is an outright communist the left come across less tolerant of those with different views than their own often labelling those who hold said different views as bigots, racists, heartless cunts, and stupid amongst others.
