The Conservative Party

A question for you oldies, were governments held to account more back then and resigned if the failed in their job?

Feels like Boris and his mates try to cling on for aslong as they can before being thrown overboard. Zero integrity.
I think they were, Eden resigned as PM over the Suez fiasco.
Edwina Currie resigned over the eggs and salmonella disaster
Robin Cook resigned over Iraq war
Heseltine resigned over the Westland affair.
Mandelson resigned over not declaring a loan in the members interests.
Jeremy Thorpe resigned the leadership of the Liberals over a gay love affair that ended badly and he was charged with conspiracy to murder, acquitted and still resigned.

I think the media was fairer as well, it investigated rather than sensationalised,

Parkinson and Mellor - they were both sex scandals
Archer and Aitken - committed perjury
Vaz - over the Hindiujah's - took Mandelson with him for a second time

They are just a few others that come to mind - didn't Profumo quit too?

Robin Cook resigned on principle, not because of any wrongdoing by him.

The media is complicit, most owned by billionaires with no skin in the game of British interests (even the Britons), just their own.
