The Conservative Party

Personally think these 2 paragraphs by journalist George Monbiot in an article about Freeports could fit the whole mantra of the Tories over the ages and possibly an even better fit for the current shower.

Democracy is the problem that capital is always striving to solve. To maintain its rates of profit, it seeks to drive down the taxes it must pay and annul the regulations that defend the living world, workers and consumers. This tends to be unpopular. Governments that permit beautiful places to be trashed, workers’ lives to be endangered and consumers to be conned might find themselves voted out of office. So fixes need to be found.

Political funding often does the job: research from the US shows how, generally, the party that attracts the most money wins. Distraction works pretty well, especially when it takes the form of culture wars. The billionaire press does a sterling job at misrepresenting our choices – to favour the very rich. But you can never be too careful. It’s safer, if possible, to bypass democracy altogether.

They are “working night and day to help us all but just wait until the new PM comes in. We are half way through the 39 billion pound we have already” so don’t be impatient if you can’t feed your kids!

Snap Election in November coming up.

Tories not arsed and want out before the real shit hits the fan.
and then they'll lie at the next election that all the shit the country went through under a labour gov was all labour's fault, and there will be enough stupid people in this country believing that who will vote tory again and return them to power. hurrah for England

Spot on.

If he had any sense, Sunak would withdraw from this contest now. He could easily site the ongoing shit show the British public are going through and how having a vacuous leadership naval gazing session, with the entire government seemingly in recess, is not on given the current circumstances.

He would appear more statesman like than he is and she’d be on the back foot almost immediately. Surely he must be thinking about a governmental job in 10 years, not in the next 2?

I see Shapps wants the winner to remember him and keep him in post, so he's raised that cyclists should have numberplates and insurance.
His department rejected this 4 years ago, so it's a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Good to see that Shappsy is looking to emulate North Korea, the only country in the world to have cyclist number plates.
