The Conservative Party

BBC radio interview with one of the Nukes (new Conservatives) saying that if care homes paid enough we wouldn't need foreign workers, and citing how the haulage industry solved the driver shortage by putting up wages (which put up bus driver wages). Would that not have been a cause of high inflation?

The constant direct correlation between paying someone a decent salary and it meaning high inflation really fucking irks me.

Suits this Tory government and it’s mates in industry mind to keep repeating it, even if it’s proven to be bollox.

It's the nonsense from the Nukes that paying train drivers more would push up inflation but it's been OK to push up lorry drivers' wages even though that has clearly impacted inflation. They're virtually saying that stopping immigration will increase inflation.

I'll just add, for what its worth, that I think Labour are missing a major attraction for me with their refusal to bring in proportional representation. PR would have prevented the extreme policies we have had forced on us by right wing extremists over the last 13 years. We wouldn't have had austerity, we wouldn't have had brexit, we wouldn't have had 23,000 hospital beds closed down, we wouldn't have lost 50,000 doctors and nurses, and the list, like the number of Police officers we have lost, goes on

Labour are not talking about it for now but they may turn that way if/when elected. To talk about it now gives the Tories the chance to scream that Labour are trying to stitch things up and exclude Tories from ever getting power again to an electorate too stupid to understand FPtP allows the Tories to win massive majorities under a system that allows that with a minority vote

Its been the mantra for decades. The only reason I dont believe it is because it comes from the rich and powerful. (And that it hasnt worked before, we just end up poor until the global economies become stable on their own).

I would like to see business take the hit. Give everyone the pay rise, give us all some extra money and we will go out and spend it, we will drive growth, but business takes the hit! I suspect that isnt discussed because WE dont really have a voice and its the rich (And their hoodwinked believers) who tell us it wouldnt. Try it, risk it! Truss wanted to make us all poorer so business could get richer - Do it the other way around you rich twats! It might work!

In my more optimistic moments I like to imagine that Keith is just keeping his power dry on this front and that there will be some movement if/when Labour are elected. In the cold light of day I think that is just wishful thinking on my part.

You can have low inflation or you can have a tight labour market. You cannot have both together under capitalism.
Don't forget this bunch of Conservatives has cut its teeth on Brexit unicorns and cakeism. "Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

Seen an article today saying the triple lock isn't going to help inflation, everyone else seems to be to blame but the bastards in charge.
