There is no such thing as a right to privacy. English law does not recognise the concept.

What she does have is a right to respect for her private life. That is a right that must be balanced against the rights of others to freedom of expression.

In the context of an attempt to suppress news of a criminal investigation while simultaneously running for public office, as you say that is quite a stretch.

Pretty much how I saw it, just wouldn't have put it so well.

There's no way the story gets broken during an election without the lawyers saying it was ok.
