'by their fruits ye shall know them' too many bitter harvests in those parts over the years. That’s an honest response, but doesn’t that somewhat undermine your inimical stance to the EU?

Would you say the Tories listened to the Lib Dems? The consequences of the last Tory/Lib coalition would not be seen as a good advertisement for a government listening to new voices.
A bit. But they were drowned out by the Kippers.Would you say the Tories listened to the Lib Dems?
Yeah, I'd agree with that. Tbh I think the Lib Dems sold themselves very short in that coalition, maybe a rush of blood to the head after a bit of electoral success following so many elections being silenced by the FPTP system. Don't think they ever realised that the Tories needed their votes on a daily basis.A bit. But they were drowned out by the Kippers.

It has effectively killed the Lib Dems as a parliamentary force. I don't see them recovering except via PR and there is no virtually chance of that happening anytime soon. It is a sad tale in many ways - I breakfasted at the National Liberal Club in Whitehall once, unforgettable, I was on the verge of joining. It was a stable government, despite confident predictions from nay-sayers that it would be anything but.
Thought they'd be a bit too pro-EU for your tastes GH?It has effectively killed the Lib Dems as a parliamentary force. Before our accession, continental breakfasts were certainly not their speciality in those distant days. Please don't gain the impression I'm anti-Europe, some of my oldest and best friends are French and even Scottish & Irish.Thought they'd be a bit too pro-EU for your tastes GH?
Just the Germans then? You mustn't get the impression I'm anti-Europe, some of my oldest and best friends are French and even Scottish & Irish.
I lived in Germany as a student for a short while, in Bochum at the University of the Ruhr. It was fantastic, never bought a pint - they loved the English and I loved them. Sadly both baked beans and toast were unknown and I developed a taste for Schnitzel that has left its mark.Just the Germans then?
In support of what I was saying, it's also worth remembering how many MPs UKIP managed to get with their 4m votes. It should be remembered that UKIP took nearly 4 million votes at the 2015 GE, many coming from the right of the Tory party along with some of the poorer Labour areas of the country and if we don’t leave the EU, I can see those and more looking for a new home in the future.
It’s all on the next few months that’s for sure.
I met a member there but I didn't get a meal. Still had to borrow a tie. And didn't think of joining. It has effectively killed the Lib Dems as a parliamentary force. Just heard May say “The Conservatives are a party of the whole country”. They’re not even a party of the whole Conservative party.
Did he put a letter in?Even the Downing street cat has his reservations.
