No one actually told the reality. It's a gift to everyone with a bill this year, and a tax (or theft) from everyone with a bill in future years. If you get the £200 and peg it, your kids settling your bills will pay £200 less. Then anyone moving into their first home will pay £40 a year for 5 years to repay the government for £200 that someone else received.

It's all perfectly simple. It's not a loan, it's a silly scheme that the energy companies will spend money administering.

So, the tax on overseas earnings wasn’t paid to India after all. Who would’ve thought it was sheltered in Mauritius, the BVIs, Cayman or wherever. And who would’ve thought she never really intends to return to India given she and her husband made a commitment to take up permanent residence in the States. What a surprise.

wonder where those posters who were supporting sunak yesterday with their bizarre arguments about paying more tax than you need to or shopping in Asda are now? All seems quiet.

So we have a PM in disgrace and probably about to be fined and a Chancellor who has actively involved himself in hiding his wifes tax evasion - what a grubby group of gangsters we have in power

And yet a core 30% of voters will always vote for them and the media will always be their mouthpiece come election time.

i just wish the 4 other parties would work together and use their 60% to keep them out.

Im not normally a fan but Marina Hyde has done an excellent column on Sunak.

Its genuinely remarkable how quickly he’s sunk from obvious next PM to unelectable and in such avoidable ways.

He's absolutely cooked as Chancellor and he'll never be PM now.

Agree 100% people can't expect him to give up his wifes citizenship, but he will have to give up his ambitions of holding one of the 4 great offices of state.

A lot of this is bollocks though, the media doesn’t have access to who has a US green card or even a list of non-doms in the UK. The blog frames it that the media has known about this all along or could have, when in actual fact it’s only because it’s been leaked by senior sources (likely no. 10) that they know about it at all.

That’s just how shit works sometimes.

Also some of the stuff just wasn’t relevant 2 years ago. Everyone knew about his wife’s stake in her dads business but it wasn't a story until they kept doing business with Russia despite Sunak levelling huge sanctions.

It has to be remembered he came to power during lockdown when there was no access for journalists to government for anything except covid. There was very limited contact and there were no public events for him to show how out of touch and buffooney he is - like filling up some random persons car and not knowing how to pay, or releasing photographs claiming to be reading the budget but very clearly reading a double page interview of himself in the Mail.

Not to mention the biggest gaffe of all - his first non-covid budget.

So while I’ll always get onboard a pile on the Whitehall media in this country, I think it’s entirely wrong to pretend this is all stuff that should have been reported in April 2020.

I keep saying that the government will get back more than they give out. There will be more people moving into their first homes than pegging it. Just look around at all the new homes being built and how many people will be moving out into their first home. Just think of all those students in their final year in September then them moving into a new flat/home next year all having to pay back £200 they didn’t get.

You can imagine that Johnson has organised some of this damage. He would sell his own parents if only he knew who they were.
